Manager, Decision Support - Finance - Full Time

Summary

Under the direction of the VP Finance, this position is responsible for providing oversight of and leadership for the development and administration of the Decision Support function for The Guthrie Clinic. The manager will be responsible for leading and directing a team of Financial Analysts that will maintain expertise in both Hospital and Physician practice operations, reporting, and benchmarking. The purpose of the Decision Support function is to collaborate with department leaders across the system, providing information technology solutions, data and analysis in useful formats that enable actionable insight to operations, and to facilitate solutions that allow for informed decision making, resulting in improved costs to deliver patient care and overall financial performance.

Experience

A minimum of five years in healthcare data analytics, business intelligence, or related roles. Healthcare and cost accounting experience required with supervisory responsibilities preferred. This position must have knowledge of the principles of financial management and decision support, proven experience leading data analytics initiatives and delivering actionable insights to drive strategic decision-making, and experience with data visualization techniques and creating compelling reports and dashboards. Familiarity with Oracle Cloud and EPIC is a plus and a strong working knowledge of Excel is required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting, or related field required from an accredited four-year institution. Master’s degree in business administration or related field is desired.

Essential Functions

- Lead a team of high performing analysts focused on creating analytics in support of The Guthrie Clinic’s Strategic Plan, as well as meeting the day-to-day requests at the hospital and clinic level necessary to help maintain, optimize, and grow the individual programs.
- Serves as a resource to both Financial and Clinical leadership to support organizational decision making, clinical and financial initiatives and strategic planning activities. Collaborate closely with various stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable insights.
- Oversee cost accounting practices, maintenance, reporting, analysis and education of the cost accounting system, capabilities, and practices. Assure consistency in practice of costing/allocation across the hospitals. This role will be responsible for accurate and consistent cost data definitions and costing across all Guthrie entities.
- Expert understanding of key performance indicators, including the drivers of contribution results, to be able to effectively present results and analyses to leadership. Monitors the ongoing sourcing, assessment, defining, and maintenance of business data to ensure integrity, quality, validity, and overall applicability to the identification, analysis, and interpretation of ongoing trends or patterns in complex data sets for specified projects.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of profitability reporting for all entities (routine and to satisfy ad hoc requests). Oversee visual dashboard development and maintenance. Dashboards to include data from multiple sources that is operational and financial in nature, as well as quality and satisfaction data. Engage in proactive assessment of opportunities to improve patient level financial reporting and assessment and coordinate with the appropriate Guthrie personnel to ensure financial integrity and consistency as well as evolution to new reporting tools.
- Oversee data analytics including understanding the financial sensitivities at a case level Pro-forma preparation for ongoing departmental, provider practice and other operational analysis, as well as revenue modeling based on current and potential payor contracts.
- Oversee the coordination and planning of the Finance function related to the capital planning and development process of the proforma financial analysis for capital and working capital commitments under the Guthrie Capital Commitment Policy.
- Oversee financial metric benchmarking and completion of related survey data for all Guthrie entities.
- Identifies opportunities to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness, including faster, easier, more efficient ways to manipulate and report data.
- Recruiting and developing staff to support decision support function and identifying and implementing enhancements to advance the function. Establish, implement, and maintain service level standards, accountability, and responsibility for the decision support team.

Other Duties

- Provide training and assistance to analysts and customers as necessary.
- Technical Management - Work closely with EMR/IT teams to ensure data flow and accuracy, and to assist in issue identification and problem-solving efforts.
- Project management support. Organize and lead finite projects. Create project plans, organize teams, provide periodic updates to stakeholders, and present deliverables.
- Use of Quality Improvement processes and techniques with an emphasis on customer satisfaction and team participation.
- Other analysis, processes and duties as required.
