About the Opportunity
We employ the UK's most experienced and skilled technical services professionals and has grown to over 8,000 people in locations across the UK - we provide the resources to turn great ideas into reality, and we offer capable and committed individuals the opportunity to shape their careers how they wish.
Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, HPCs two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the projects ‘clean energy’ benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.
As a Project Engineer within Critical Technical Programmes (CTP), you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting Hinkley Point C’s (HPC) licensing journey, ensuring the safe & effective delivery the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in Britain providing zero-carbon electricity for around six million homes.
Role responsibilities
- As part of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) regulatory process the ONR raised a series of Assessment Findings (AF) that HPC is addressing. One such assessment finding is GDAF-SI-37 stating that the Licensee shall ensure that the site specific "Stress reports" confirm the adequacy of the design.
- Within HPC, this is currently achieved through delivery of a series of documents from various stakeholders called “Stress Reports”, these documents demonstrate the mechanical integrity of primary circuit & secondary circuit components & contain evidence that systems & components meet necessary design code requirements for HPC, for all transients and loads included in the design basis. However, as the HPC design evolves it is necessary for HPC to regularly review & perform necessary modifications to the documents to ensure they reflect the as-built plant and loading conditions.
- To support closure of GDAF-SI-37, and, to ensure pressure compliance, the Complex SI team is seeking support for the team developing the Post-RC2 Stress Report strategy. The outcome of this work will enable HPC to demonstrate the detailed substantiation of the plant design from a structural analysis perspective as is required to support claims made in the safety case.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Ideally experience working on HPC project, or with EDF Energy. If not, experience working with multi-disciplinary teams within complex engineering environments either within nuclear or other highly regulated spaces;
- Engineering or Science background with an interest in Project Engineering or Project Management;
- Demonstrates Effective “context” leadership skills, developing understandings for new topics at pace to coordinate without being lost in the detail;
- Prior experience with configuration management;
- Track record of engagement in fast-paced and rapidly evolving topic;
- Pragmatic thinker with good listening skills, able to hear the input of many individuals and distil solutions that best fit the collective needs of teams across the project; and,
