At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
As a member of the Blue Origin family of companies, Honeybee Robotics has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years. Our Colorado location specializes in creating advanced motion control solutions for NASA, defense, and commercial programs. Our work has played a critical role in thousands of projects, spanning from conceptual design studies to flight missions, including NASA's Artemis I Mission and the Roman Space Telescope. We are seeking technically brilliant individuals who are passionate about their work, thrive in collaborative environments, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.
Blue Origin is developing TeraWave, a revolutionary multi-orbit satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. Its constellation of thousands of optically interconnected satellites relies on precise, reliable mechanisms that keep each satellite positioned, stable, and communicating.
Within Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin company, the Motion Control business unit designs, manufactures, and tests high-performance actuators, gearboxes, motors, motor-drive electronics, and integrated motion-control systems. In this role, you will support TeraWave by developing and executing test solutions for the electromechanical hardware used in its precision mechanisms. You will own the test effort, from requirements and test-system design through execution, data review, and anomaly closure. This includes designing Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and automated test equipment (ATE), integrating instrumentation and data-acquisition systems, developing test software, operating hardware in the lab, and troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical, and software boundaries.
Candidates from aerospace, robotics, automotive, medical device, industrial automation, or other high-reliability hardware environments may be a strong fit if they have built and operated test systems for comparable electromechanical hardware.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Develop test software and automated test sequences using environments such as Python or LabVIEW to command EGSE, coordinate test execution, monitor and collect measurement data in real time, and analyze and report the results.
- Design, develop, and validate Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) that provides the electrical interfaces needed to power, command, stimulate, and measure the units under test.
- Design, configure, and operate test fixtures, ground support equipment (GSE), and data-acquisition systems for electromechanical system testing.
- Collaborate with design, systems, and quality engineers to ensure test requirements are properly derived, allocated, and verified.
- Support Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), test-anomaly investigations, and Failure Review Boards (FRBs).
- Perform additional duties or projects as needed to support evolving program, test, and business priorities.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechatronics, mechanical, controls, aerospace engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant hands-on experience may be considered.
- Experience developing automated test sequences, test software, or data-analysis tools in at least one programming environment such as Python, LabVIEW, C++, C#, or MATLAB.
- Hands-on experience building and operating EGSE, ATE, or comparable custom test systems for electrical or electromechanical hardware.
- Experience with data-acquisition systems and instrumentation such as load cells, torque sensors, encoders, thermocouples, current/voltage measurement, or accelerometers.
- Ability to read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface-control documents.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret test data, recognize anomalies, and drive problems to resolution using a structured approach.
- Clear technical writing and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience applying version control and sound software-development practices to test software
- Experience testing precision motion-control hardware such as brushless DC motors, actuators, gearboxes, encoders, motor-drive electronics, slip rings, or flex harnesses.
- Experience developing test software in compliance with NASA NPR 7150.2D (NASA Software Engineering Requirements) or equivalent software assurance standards.
- Experience across development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns, including anomaly investigation and corrective action.
- Familiarity with environmental test standards such as MIL-STD-810, GEVS (GSFC-STD-7000), or equivalent aerospace qualification standards.
- Experience with requirements-management or model-based systems-engineering tools such as DOORS or Jama.
- Experience supporting tests at external facilities or customer sites.
Special Mentions
- Relocation assistance is available.
- Travel up to 10%.
