About this role

Join Mizuho as a Compute & Storage Engineering Lead!

Mizuho is hiring a Director to lead Compute & Storage Engineering within Infrastructure Engineering & Architecture. You will own the people, delivery and operating rhythm of the team that designs, builds and evolves the firm's compute, storage and virtualization platforms as they modernize across the hybrid estate.

This is a management-first role: you are accountable for how the team operates and delivers, not for performing the engineering work directly. Your focus is building a high-performing team, running delivery with clear accountability, and making sure the right work gets done well.

What you'll do:

- Lead and grow the team. Hire, set clear expectations, run performance and career conversations, and develop engineers into senior and technical leadership roles. Build a culture of accountability and technical rigor.
- Own delivery. Run a single book of work across projects, lifecycle and demand. Plan capacity, sequence priorities, track commitments and escalate early.
- Run the operating rhythm. Own planning, status reporting, risks and issues, budget input and resourcing for the team.
- Own production readiness. Nothing moves into production until its risks are understood. Assess readiness across resiliency, capacity, failure modes and supportability, and hand platforms to operations with documentation, monitoring and a support model in place.
- Uphold controls. Keep the team aligned with change management, audit, regulatory and resilience requirements, and drive technology risk remediation to closure.
- Manage strategic vendors. Own OEM and platform vendor relationships, including roadmaps, escalations, lifecycle and renewals.
- Represent the team. Give senior technology leadership clear status, trade-offs and decisions.

What you'll bring:

- 12+ years in infrastructure engineering, including 5+ years leading engineering teams.
- A track record of delivering complex infrastructure programs, such as data center builds, platform migrations or large hardware refreshes, with clear accountability for outcomes.
- A hands-on background in compute and virtualization, including VMware vSphere at enterprise scale. You are technical enough to earn engineers' respect, challenge a plan and make sound trade-off calls, while leaving design authority with technical leads.
- Working knowledge of enterprise storage platforms.
- Experience delivering clean, well-documented handovers to operations teams.
- Experience hiring, developing and retaining strong engineers, and addressing underperformance directly.
- Program and financial discipline: capacity planning, budgets, vendor and contract management.
- Experience in a regulated environment, ideally financial services, with change, risk and audit controls.
- Clear, concise communication with engineers and senior stakeholders alike.

Nice to have

- Deeper enterprise storage engineering experience, such as NetApp, Pure Storage or HPE storage.
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift (including OpenShift Virtualization), Microsoft Azure IaaS and bare metal provisioning, or the ability to develop proficiency quickly.
- Infrastructure as code and automation, such as Terraform, Ansible and API-driven provisioning.
- Experience leading large-scale workload migrations between platforms.
- Experience with FinOps or cost transparency for infrastructure services.

The expected base salary ranges from $150k-$200k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
