About this role
Tesla Energy in Nevada is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer for the Energy Storage business. In this role, you will be responsible for battery cell manufacturing and for building a world-class quality process that enables Tesla to deliver safe, reliable stationary energy storage solutions and advance the mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. This is a dynamic position: you will work across engineering groups to develop products and processes that are built right the first time, then continuously improve them to meet customer expectations and profitability goals.
- Accountable for the quality of incoming components, quality controls and assurance in the production process, root cause analysis and resolution of problems impacting internal and external customers, continuous improvement, and risk mitigation
- Drive cross-functional teams to achieve targets for field reliability, scrap, and first-pass yield
- Develop manufacturing requirements, quality standards, and product quality plans so products meet target-customer expectations.
- Deploy manufacturing-level requirements to subsystems, assemblies, and components so design and customer needs stay in focus
- Lead development of Design and Process FMEAs so development teams identify and address critical risks
- Participate in design reviews to assure subsystem quality, manufacturability, and reliability
- Assist development with dimensional analysis, statistical tolerancing, and other methods to investigate how part and process variability affect system performance.
- Support process capability analyses to determine whether suppliers and production processes can meet defined specifications and quality standards
- Design experiments through DOE or other methods so design and process teams can compare alternatives and resolve quality issues
- Manage and facilitate the root-cause and corrective-action system by tracking and validating issues, and support root-cause analysis through brainstorming, lean methods, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, DMAIC, and 8D
- Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Six Sigma or ASQ certification (preferred)
- At least 2 years of experience in Quality Engineering
- At least 1 year of experience with electromechanical assemblies, chemical processes, or battery cell manufacturing (preferred)
- Specific training and demonstrated success applying design for quality, problem-solving methodologies, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DOE, and SPC
- Strong background and demonstrated success applying statistical methods
- Experience with Minitab, JMP, or other statistical software (preferred)
- Data mining, database, and scripting experience (for example, MySQL and Python)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
