About this role

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician supports a highly automated central fill pharmacy that packages and distributes medications to retail pharmacies across multiple states. In this role, you manually fill prescriptions, replenish medications for automated dispensing stations, package and label medications, stock completed packages, and perform a variety of tasks that ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant prescription fulfillment in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain pharmacy systems and technology, including inventory systems and automated medication counting machines, by preparing informational records and reports, ensuring accurate data entry, and supporting compliance with policies and regulations.
- Monitor inventory levels and expiration dates for pharmaceuticals, calibrate automated machines, and apply correct settings for pills and capsules to minimize breakage and maintain smooth production.
- Ensure medications are continuously replenished by using computer and scanner systems to track inventory status and troubleshoot pill cell issues such as jamming throughout the production process.
- Sort, place, and store incoming freight in appropriate locations, restock and replenish medications, report low stock levels, and maintain stock rotation using a first-in, first-out method to support shrinkage control.
- Perform inventory cycle counts and assist with physical inventory counts, create and review reports using inventory information systems, and monitor prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals.
- Support facility operations with reporting and paperwork by entering and modifying pharmaceutical data in systems and on forms, processing and submitting required documentation, and maintaining files, manuals, forms, records, and supplies.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in records or files, prepare reports of pharmacy activities and inventory, including state board mandated testing of counting devices, and communicate incorrect or inefficient processes and improper service procedures to leadership.
- Fulfill pharmacy prescriptions in an automated central fill environment by using scanners to identify and select the correct pharmaceutical product and quantity, verifying product size and strength, and confirming pack and quantity displays before processing orders.
- Enter expiration dates and lot numbers accurately, label prescriptions, weigh medications to verify quantity, and count or pour medications for prescription orders while meeting daily production and quality goals.
- Prepare packages and distribute medications in a fast-paced production environment, ensuring that automated counting machines are replenished and functioning properly.
- Maintain the quality, accuracy, and integrity of pharmaceutical and supply inventory by using automated inventory control scanners and systems to track deliveries and stocking activities.
- Ensure adherence to documented inventory control procedures, including product strategies and resolution of product description discrepancies, and audit and test pill cell performance according to prescribed schedules and procedures.
- Manage pill cell information databases, troubleshoot pill cell performance issues, and properly identify and discard hazardous waste in accordance with established guidelines.
- Process recalled and expired pharmaceuticals, and dispose of or process outdated stock for credit to maintain regulatory compliance and inventory integrity.

- Ability to follow detailed procedures and standard operating processes consistently.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills for maintaining records, forms, and reports.
Work Environment
This role is based in a newer, highly automated central fill pharmacy facility that prepares and packages prescriptions for retail pharmacies rather than dispensing directly to patients. The environment is fast paced and production-focused, requiring sustained attention to detail and adherence to established workflows and quality standards. Multiple second-shift schedules are available, generally running from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with options such as SundayWednesday, Sunday/Monday/Thursday/Friday, and TuesdayFriday. The facility operates with approximately 200 onsite team members, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, shipping and receiving coordinators, and leadership staff. Team members work primarily with automation technologies, inventory control scanners, and automated counting machines in a closed-door pharmacy setting, with no customer-facing responsibilities and no vaccine administration or point-of-care testing. The role requires the ability to stand in one spot for most of the shift while performing repetitive, detail-oriented tasks. The facility is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and dress code expectations align with a professional production pharmacy environment focused on safety and compliance.
