The Quality Assurance Technician performs hands-on scientific and technical inspection of incoming components and assembled equipment in a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on using microscopy, visual inspection, measurement techniques, and functional testing to determine whether manufactured components meet established quality and performance requirements. This is an entry-level to early-career technical quality position, ideal for someone with strong observational skills, comfort using microscopes and measurement equipment, and the ability to accurately document and communicate findings. Training is primarily hands-on and on-the-job, with learning through demonstration, shadowing experienced team members, and performing procedures under guidance before becoming independent.
Responsibilities
- Utilize microscopes and other visual inspection techniques to inspect components and assemblies.
- Identify physical defects, abnormalities, contamination, workmanship issues, and deviations from specifications.
- Confirm that components meet established visual and dimensional acceptance criteria.
- Compare observed inspection results against drawings, specifications, diagrams, and work instructions.
- Accurately document all microscopy and visual inspection results.
- Conduct incoming inspection of manufactured components and materials.
- Verify incoming components against established specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Use measurement and inspection equipment to confirm dimensional requirements.
- Identify and document nonconforming material and communicate issues to relevant teams.
- Perform technician-level functional verification of assembled tools and equipment.
- Confirm that finished assemblies operate as intended before release to production or customers.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic issues when necessary.
- Escalate complex controls or engineering concerns to appropriate technical resources.
- Work directly alongside production and assembly personnel during inspection activities.
- Clearly communicate defects, deviations, and functional issues to production and technical staff.
- Partner with production teams to understand potential causes of quality concerns.
- Provide timely feedback that allows quality issues to be corrected without unnecessarily disrupting production.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and complete inspection records.
- Document defects, test results, observations, and corrective actions in accordance with procedures.
- Communicate inspection findings to Operations, Engineering, and site leadership to support decision-making.
- Provide documented quality information that can be used for continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control practices to ensure data integrity and compliance.
- Support metrology activities by using appropriate measurement tools and techniques for dimensional verification.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience using a microscope for visual inspection, scientific analysis, quality inspection, or related technical work.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent observational ability, including recognition of subtle defects or deviations.
- Ability to inspect manufactured components and assembled equipment for dimensional, visual, and functional conformance.
- Comfort using measurement and inspection equipment for dimensional verification.
- Experience accurately recording inspection findings, test results, deviations, and quality observations.
- Ability to document results accurately and consistently in inspection records and reports.
- Ability to effectively communicate findings to production, operations, engineering, and other technical teams.
- Comfort working directly alongside production and assembly personnel to identify and communicate quality concerns.
- Ability and willingness to learn new inspection procedures through hands-on, on-the-job training.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment with scientific and technical equipment.
- Strong commitment to data integrity and adherence to quality control and document control practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in quality control, quality assurance, QC testing, and laboratory or inspection environments.
- Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and document control in a quality-focused setting.
- Exposure to metrology concepts and use of measurement tools for dimensional inspection.
- Relevant educational backgrounds such as Biology, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or other related scientific or technical disciplines.
- Hands-on technical experience in laboratory work, microscopy, manufacturing, or inspection is strongly valued and may be considered in lieu of a specific degree.
- Ability to support troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic issues at a technician level.
- Comfort collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, and site leadership.
- Interest in continuous improvement and contributing quality data that supports process and product enhancements.
Work Environment
This role is based in a hands-on manufacturing environment where you work closely with production and assembly teams. You will regularly use microscopes, measurement tools, and other scientific and inspection equipment to evaluate components and assemblies. The position involves on-the-job, demonstration-based training, with significant time spent at inspection stations and on the production floor. Work is detail-oriented and process-driven, following established specifications, drawings, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
