About this role
About Shepherd Electric Supply
Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved, and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time, so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we will come through.
Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way — safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place.
Why This Role Matters
Every branch, every warehouse, and every truck on the road depends on safety programs that actually work. Shepherd’s reputation for reliability starts with people getting home safely — and with operations that are never stopped by a preventable incident, a failed inspection, or a lapsed certification.
The Safety and Compliance Coordinator is not a policy role that lives behind a desk. You are the person who makes sure the extinguishers are inspected, the forklift certifications are current, the DOT files are complete, and the corrective action actually got closed. When safety and compliance are done right, operations run without interruption. When they are not, people get hurt and the whole company feels it.
This role is for someone organized enough to track dozens of deadlines across every location, practical enough to make safety work on a busy warehouse floor, and confident enough to hold the standard — respectfully and consistently.
How This Role Connects to Our Compass
We Keep Our Promises :
Every employee is promised a safe place to work, and every customer counts on us operating without disruption. You make that promise real — inspections completed on schedule, certifications current, postings accurate, and corrective actions closed, not just opened.
We Stay Hungry:
You look at incident trends, driver scorecards, and audit findings and ask what they are telling us. You find the practical fix — a better inspection routine, a clearer training reminder, a smarter use of Samsara or SafetyAmp — and you keep raising the bar.
We Grow Together:
Safety does not live in one office. You partner with branch managers, warehouse teams, drivers, HR, and vendors every day. You educate rather than lecture, and you help every location own its safety culture.
We Own It:
When an incident happens, you see it through — documentation, investigation support, repair confirmation, communication, and closure. When training falls behind, you surface the gap and drive the follow-up. Nothing sits open because it seemed like someone else’s job.
We Go Above & Beyond:
You spot the hazard on a walkthrough before it becomes an incident. You flag the expiring DOT medical card before a driver is off the road. You get ahead of the inspection calendar instead of reacting to it.

What Success Looks Like
After 90 days, you and your Manager should both be able to point to these markers:
- You have a clear, current view of every branch’s safety maintenance calendar, fire safety inspection status, and required postings
- Forklift certifications, DOT medical certifications, and driver qualification files are tracked, with upcoming renewals flagged ahead of deadlines
- Open incidents in SafetyAmp are moving to closure, with corrective actions documented and repairs confirmed
- Managers receive regular, clear updates on training completion and know exactly where their gaps are
- Samsara scorecards, leaderboards, and recognition reporting are actively reinforcing safe driving
- You have walked every branch and surfaced at least one meaningful improvement — a hazard fixed, a process tightened, a gap closed
- Operations leadership trusts that safety and compliance records are accurate and audit-ready
Who Thrives Here
This role is a strong fit if:
- You follow things through to closure — an open corrective action bothers you until it is done
- You are organized and deadline-driven, and comfortable managing many programs across many locations
- You are as comfortable on a warehouse floor or in a truck yard as you are in a tracking system
- You explain the “why” behind safety standards in a way employees and managers actually hear
- You hold the standard consistently, with sound judgment and without drama
- You see risk early and recommend practical solutions that work in real operations
- You want to be part of a team that notices when you do the job well
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in workplace safety, compliance, operations, fleet safety, warehouse safety, or a related field
- Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, fire safety, emergency preparedness, PPE, incident reporting, and training compliance requirements
- Ability to manage multiple programs, track deadlines, maintain accurate documentation, and follow corrective actions through completion
- Strong communication skills with the ability to educate employees, support managers, and provide clear updates to leadership
- Comfort using safety management systems (such as SafetyAmp), fleet technology platforms (such as Samsara), spreadsheets, training records, and compliance tracking tools
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain audit-ready records
- Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements
