Turn your Dungeon Master skills into meaningful community connection
Are you an experienced Dungeon Master with a sound understanding of disability or mental health support?
genU is looking for passionate, creative Mental Health and Interpersonal Skills Facilitators to join our GAMER Geelong team. Support participants to build confidence, social connections and independence through Dungeons & Dragons, tabletop games, board games and general gaming.
Experience planning and running Dungeons & Dragons games as a Dungeon Master is essential and non-negotiable. An interest in gaming or experience as a player alone is not sufficient.
You must also bring a sound understanding of disability, mental health or a related field, supported by relevant education, qualifications or equivalent practical experience.
At genU, we’re a profit-for-purpose organisation, reinvesting our success into programs that create meaningful social impact and help people live their best lives.
We’re seeking availability for weekday sessions, with some evening and weekend work as required.
What you’ll do
As a Mental Health and Interpersonal Skills Facilitator, you’ll:
- Plan and run engaging Dungeons & Dragons adventures, confidently guiding participants as the Dungeon Master.
- Adapt gameplay, explanations and session pacing to suit different experience levels, support needs and personal goals.
- Facilitate inclusive, goal-oriented gaming sessions using recovery-based and person-centred active support approaches.
- Support participants to develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Create a welcoming environment where participants can build confidence, independence and meaningful social connections.
- Identify barriers to participation and adapt activities to support individual goals.
- Maintain accurate progress notes and contribute to participant planning and relevant documentation.
What you’ll bring
Essential skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience planning and running Dungeons & Dragons games as a Dungeon Master. This is a mandatory requirement.
- A working knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons rules, collaborative storytelling, character creation and group facilitation.
- The ability to explain gameplay clearly and support both new and experienced players.
- A sound understanding of disability, mental health or a related field, supported by relevant education, qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Empathy, patience and the ability to adapt your approach to individual participants.
- Strong communication, teamwork and documentation skills.
- A commitment to safe, respectful and person-centred support.
Qualifications and checks
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Disability or a related qualification, or an equivalent background accepted for the position.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing.
- Victorian Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing.
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
In your application, please outline your experience running Dungeons & Dragons games and your relevant disability, mental health or related education and experience.
