About CommodityAI
CommodityAI builds software and AI automation for physical commodity trading. We help teams turn information scattered across emails, documents and existing systems into reliable workflows for trade execution and operations. Our customers work with the energy, metals and agricultural products that move through the global economy.
We recently raised our Series A and are growing our engineering team. You will work closely with the founders and customers, own meaningful parts of the product, and see the results of your work in real operations.
The role
We are looking for a senior engineer who can take an ambiguous problem, choose a practical approach, and own delivery through production. You should be comfortable moving between backend services, data models, integrations and user-facing features, while bringing depth in at least one area.
What you will do
- Design and ship APIs, data pipelines and application features that support commodity operations.
- Build reliable integrations between messy external data and the systems our customers depend on.
- Work across the stack to resolve bottlenecks and deliver complete customer workflows.
- Improve testing, observability and operational reliability as the product and team grow.
- Make clear technical tradeoffs, review code and help other engineers make sound decisions.
- Work directly with the founders and customers to decide what matters and own the outcome.
What we are looking for
- Experience independently delivering and operating substantial production software.
- Strong fundamentals in APIs, data modeling, debugging and system design.
- Depth in backend or full-stack engineering and a willingness to work beyond your primary specialty.
- Evidence of making pragmatic decisions with incomplete requirements and following through after launch.
- Clear communication about risks, progress and technical tradeoffs.
Useful experience
- Building at an early-stage company or owning a broad product area on a small team.
- Enterprise integrations, data-intensive workflows or operational software.
- Shipping AI-powered features with evaluation and human review where needed.
What success looks like
You own an important product area, ship improvements customers use, and make the system easier to operate and extend. You help the team move quickly while reducing avoidable failures.
Interview process
We start with either a 15-minute introductory conversation followed by a separate 1-hour technical screen, or a single 1-hour session with a 15-minute introduction and 45-minute technical exercise. Depending on what we still need to explore together, we may invite you to a second technical screen before an onsite.
We will explain the next step and what to prepare before each interview.
