About this role

Make your mark by building the automation platform that keeps critical infrastructure running at enterprise scale. Join a team where your designs directly improve reliability, security, and delivery outcomes across a global technology estate. Grow your career through high-visibility, cross-organization impact and deep technical ownership in a regulated environment.

As a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within Infrastructure Platforms, you own the technical direction and delivery of an enterprise automation and orchestration platform. You design and build reusable automation capabilities that enable controlled configuration, orchestration, and run operations across large fleets of Windows, Linux, and network devices. You partner with engineering, operations, and risk stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient, and auditable software changes. You drive measurable improvements in delivery speed, quality, and operational outcomes through workflow automation and responsible use of enterprise-authorized artificial intelligence capabilities.

This role blends platform engineering and operational ownership for services that operate at significant scale and require strong control discipline. You will shape architecture standards, contribute hands-on engineering, and improve release practices so changes are repeatable, observable, and recoverable. You will integrate authentication, access controls, and security-by-design patterns directly into automation workflows. You will also help teams adopt artificial intelligence-enabled engineering automation in a way that is validated, traceable, and safe for sensitive data.

Job Responsibilities

- Own the engineering and day-to-day reliability of an enterprise automation and orchestration platform supporting large-scale infrastructure automation across Windows, Linux, and network devices.
- Define platform architecture, technical standards, and reusable automation patterns to improve consistency, quality, and time to delivery.
- Build and deliver automation capabilities using Ansible and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, including well-documented modules, collections, and runbooks that enable safe reuse.
- Implement controlled release practices by integrating automated build, test, and deployment workflows using tooling such as Jenkins to support repeatable and auditable changes.
- Improve platform observability by instrumenting monitoring, logging, alerting, and service health indicators that reduce time to detect and time to restore.
- Embed security-by-design into automation workflows by integrating authentication and access mechanisms, privileged access considerations, and secure automation patterns.
- Drive operational resilience by designing for failure, enabling safe rollback and recovery, and improving incident readiness through runbooks and automation-assisted triage.
- Lead adoption of artificial intelligence-enabled engineering automation within the software delivery lifecycle by defining use cases, workflow integrations, and measurable success criteria.
- Establish guardrails for artificial intelligence-enabled workflows, including human validation steps, quality gates, traceability, resiliency checks, and secure handling of sensitive inputs and outputs.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

- Demonstrated applied software engineering experience, supported by formal training or certification in software engineering concepts.
- Strong experience in leading complex technical work through influence as a senior or principal engineer (architecture decisions, technical standards, delivery accountability).
- Hands-on experience building and operating enterprise automation and orchestration solutions; Ansible experience required.
- Experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (including Ansible Tower), or similar enterprise scale automation software in production environments.
- Experience designing and operating platforms with strong reliability requirements (monitoring, incident response readiness, and operational runbooks).
- Experience implementing automated build, test, and deployment workflows using tools such as Jenkins.
- Working knowledge of Windows and Linux administration concepts relevant to remote automation and configuration management.
- Working knowledge of enterprise authentication and access methods used for automation (for example, Secure Shell and Windows Remote Management).
- Experience applying secure engineering practices, including vulnerability remediation and patching processes, in regulated environments.
- Experience leading adoption of enterprise-authorized artificial intelligence-assisted engineering practices with human validation steps and measurable outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

- Experience automating network device configuration and operations at scale.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures and cloud automation patterns.
- Experience designing multi-tenant platforms with policy-based controls and delegated administration.
- Experience modernizing automated testing approaches for infrastructure and platform engineering.
- Experience coaching engineers through design reviews and code reviews across geographically distributed teams.
