About this role
Senior UX/UI Designer – Control Rooms
About Barco Control Rooms
Barco Control Rooms delivers software and visualization solutions for mission-critical environments, including utilities, transportation, public safety, process control and security operations centers. Operators in these environments rely on intuitive, reliable and highly efficient user experiences to make critical decisions every day.
To keep innovating at pace, we are evolving our UX practice and design system to enable stronger consistency and seamless collaboration between Product Management, UX and Engineering.
We are looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer who combines strong experience design skills with hands-on expertise in scaling design systems for complex, mission-critical software.
Role Purpose
As a Senior UX/UI Designer you combine two roles: design intuitive user experiences for complex operational software and take ownership of the underlying design system that powers them. You will take our design system to the next level: from a well-maintained Figma library to a mature, governed system that designers, developers and AI tools can build on.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design
- Design workflows, interactions and interfaces for mission-critical control room applications, where operators handle complex, information-dense tasks.
- Translate user needs, operational workflows and product requirements into user journeys, wireframes, prototypes and polished, responsive high-fidelity interfaces.
- Conduct usability evaluations and incorporate user feedback into product designs.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Product Owners and software engineers throughout the product-development lifecycle.
Design System & Component Ownership
- Own, maintain and continuously improve the Barco Control Rooms design system and Figma libraries.
- Define and govern design tokens and variables, including dark and light theming, aligned with Angular Material conventions.
- Document components for both designers and developers: usage, behavior, states, accessibility and the matching code component.
AI & Design-to-Code
- Use AI-assisted tools such as Figma Make to accelerate exploration and prototyping.
- Make the design system AI-ready through structured components, semantic naming and documentation, so AI-generated UI meets Barco standards.
- Align Figma components with production Angular components, and connect them to code and AI tools, for example through Figma Code Connect and MCP.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in UX/UI, Product Design or Interaction Design, including complex, information-dense B2B or operational software.
- Experience validating design decisions with users, also when direct access is limited (e.g. through customer visits, remote sessions or internal experts such as support and service engineers).
- Proven experience scaling a design system. Please include a concrete example in your portfolio.
- Expert-level Figma skills, including component architecture, variables, design tokens and theming (e.g. dark and light mode).
- Hands-on curiosity about AI-assisted design tools and how they can improve the way design and development work together.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, and experience working closely with development teams.
- Experience connecting design systems to code, for example through Figma Code Connect, MCP or token pipelines.
- Affinity with front-end development and component-based frameworks such as Angular Material.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
Our Offer
- Access to a wide range of internal training opportunities through Barco University to support your professional development.
- The opportunity to work for an international market leader where innovation matters.
- A competitive salary package.
- A full-time salaried position.
