About this role
We’re building a new technology capability at Infor that will help transform how our services organization delivers solutions and implementations to customers.
This is an opportunity to join at an early stage and help shape something new. Rather than stepping into a mature product with established patterns and processes, you’ll be part of a small, senior technical team bringing a product engineering mindset to an environment that has traditionally been more project-oriented.
We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer who combines strong architectural thinking with a genuine passion for hands-on engineering.
You’ll be someone who can step back and think about architecture, scalability and long-term technical direction, while still enjoying the work of designing, building, experimenting and writing code.
Not every problem will arrive with a predefined solution. You’ll have the opportunity to explore different approaches, make important technical decisions and help determine the right direction as the capability evolves.
A Typical Day in the Life Includes:
· Help architect and build a new technology capability from the ground up.
· Take ownership of key technical and architectural decisions.
· Stay deeply hands-on with software development, design and code.
· Build AI-enabled solutions using strong, proven software engineering practices.
· Explore architectural alternatives, prototype ideas and evaluate different technical approaches.
· Determine how existing Infor technologies and external platforms can be effectively leveraged and integrated.
· Design maintainable, scalable solutions built for long-term use, not just rapid initial delivery.
· Work with modern AI technologies, including LLMs and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
· Help establish engineering standards, development practices and architectural principles for a newly formed team.
· Work with a high degree of autonomy, identifying problems and opportunities rather than relying on highly detailed task direction.
· Collaborate closely with experienced technical colleagues as the capability grows.
Basic Qualifications:
You’re an experienced software engineer with strong technical judgment and a track record of designing and building high-quality software systems.
Ideally, you bring:
· Significant professional software engineering experience, ideally gained across complex products, platforms or enterprise systems.
· Strong experience in software architecture, system design and making technical decisions with long-term impact.
· A strong track record of hands-on software development.
· Practical knowledge of modern AI technologies, including LLMs and RAG.
· A strong foundation in software engineering principles, combined with an ability to use AI-assisted development effectively.
· The ability to recognize the difference between a promising prototype and software architecture that is scalable, maintainable and production-ready.
· Confidence working in an environment where some technical questions are still being explored.
· The ability to create direction, make sound technical decisions and move ideas forward independently.
· Curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to experiment, learn and iterate.
Technology
Experience with some of the following would be particularly relevant:
## Preferred technologies
· Python
· JavaScript / TypeScript
· AI and Large Language Models
· Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
## Additional valuable experience
· Java
· Systems architecture
· Product engineering
· Building new products, platforms or capabilities from the ground up
· Integrating multiple technologies, platforms and systems
Python and JavaScript/TypeScript are preferred rather than strict requirements. We’re more interested in the depth of your engineering experience, architectural thinking and ability to learn and adapt than whether you match every technology on the list.
We’re looking for someone with substantial experience building and architecting software systems, ideally alongside practical experience with modern AI technologies.
Who will thrive in this role?
You might describe yourself as an architect, but you still want to code.
You enjoy operating at a senior technical level without becoming several layers removed from engineering and delivery. You like tackling problems where the answer isn’t immediately obvious, exploring different possibilities and turning promising ideas into robust software.
You’re energized by a way of working that looks something like:
Build. Experiment. Learn. Improve. Build again.
Most importantly, you’re comfortable entering situations where the complete answer isn’t known yet. You bring the technical experience, curiosity and judgment to help the team find it.
“We don’t know the complete answer yet, but I know how to work through the problem and help us find it.”
Why this opportunity?
This is a chance to influence both what gets built and how it gets built.
You’ll join at a stage where important architectural choices are still being made, engineering practices are being established and new ideas can have a meaningful impact on the direction of the capability.
