About this role

At IBM Research, we are the innovation engine of IBM. Exploring what's next in computing and shaping the technologies the world will rely on tomorrow. From advancing AI and hybrid cloud to pioneering practical quantum computing, we anticipate challenges and unlock new opportunities for clients, partners, and society. Working in Research means joining a team that accelerates discovery at the intersection of high-performance computing, AI, quantum, and cloud. You'l collaborate with leading scientists, engineers, and visionaries to push boundaries and turn ideas into reality. With a culture built on curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, IBM Research offers the opportunity to grow your career while contributing to breakthroughs that transform industries and change the world. Serve as the primary scientific authority for silicon spin qubit technology, setting the research direction and execution strategy across qubit design, control methodology, coherence optimization, and device characterization, while remaining deeply hands-on in the operation of spin qubit devices to push performance beyond current limits. Lead cross-disciplinary efforts spanning device physics, quantum characterization, measurement techniques, analog electronics, noise suppression, and hardware–software interfaces, partnering closely with theory, modeling, materials, fabrication, and software teams to develop the experimental methodologies that diagnose qubit performance, noise sources, stability, and device-environment interactions. Drive novel concepts from theoretical framing through experimental validation to shorten innovation cycles, and act as a scientific leader and mentor across physics, engineering, and software — representing the program externally through technical presentations, collaborations, and peer-reviewed publications. PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science Experience managing or providing technical direction for large applied science efforts 10+ years professional experience in quantum computing research and development   History of high impact publications in quantum computing and related fields.
