About this role
If you are a software engineering leader ready to take the reins and drive impact, we’ve got an opportunity just for you.
As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within Card & Connected Commerce Technology, you lead a technical area and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and a driver of innovation and solution delivery.
Job responsibilities
- Set the technical direction and engineering roadmap for agent identity, delegated authorization, tool interaction, and cross-protocol security.
- Lead technical contributions to relevant industry standards-setting organizations, translating Chase requirements into specification proposals and implementation guidance.
- Contribute to industry reference architecture and implementation initiatives through practical engineering and validation of identity, authentication, and authorization approaches.
- Develop reference architectures and implementations that distinguish agent identity, customer intent, delegated authority, mandates, policy decisions, and evidence.
- Engineer patterns for bounded delegation, authority attenuation, revocation, human approval, and enforcement at service and transaction boundaries.
- Define portable, verifiable authority and evidence flows, evaluating centralized and distributed approaches against Chase requirements rather than assuming a registry is necessary.
- Evaluate agent and tool protocols through prototypes, interoperability tests, threat models, and cross-protocol abuse cases.
- Connect agent interactions with payment authentication, merchant assurance, issuer authorization, and dispute-relevant evidence.
- Partner with product architects and engineers on reusable components, interface contracts, and implementation profiles, while product teams retain production delivery and operational ownership.
- Lead cross-functional technical delivery, maintain standards traceability, mentor technologists, and return engineering findings to standards development.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 10+ years of applied experience, including 5+ years leading technologists to anticipate and solve complex technical challenges.
- Deep experience in authorization, identity protocols, distributed systems security, or secure service architecture.
- Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, token security, workload identity, least privilege, and policy enforcement.
- Practical experience engineering delegated-access, service-to-service, tool-integration, or AI-agent systems.
- Ability to distinguish identity, intent, consent, authority, and evidence in architecture and implementation.
- Experience threat modeling impersonation, excessive authority, confused-deputy behavior, and misuse across trust boundaries.
- Demonstrated delivery of working prototypes, reference implementations, reusable components, and automated tests.
- Ability to interpret emerging specifications, develop precise technical proposals, and lead decisions across product, architecture, engineering, and control functions.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience with MCP, Financial-grade API profiles, sender-constrained tokens, SPIFFE, or workload identity standards.
- Contributions to agentic AI, identity, authorization, open-banking, or payment standards initiatives.
- Experience with customer approval, auditable delegation, transaction authorization, or agentic commerce.
- Experience with conformance testing, interoperability programs, or reference implementation projects.
- Experience hiring, developing, or mentoring engineering talent.
