Client Description:
We are looking for a genuine and positive caregiver to provide support for a 15 year old boy in the home and potentially in the community. Our client is very creative and energetic; he likes to skate and spend time with friends. He lives with his mom in an apartment, he is working on being more engaged with household tasks, becoming more consistent with his personal hygiene, and building his safety awareness. He has difficulty tracking conversations and communicating for extended periods of time and may misunderstand others or their tone of voice. He requires a caregiver who will provide basic and straight forward communication during daily activities.
Other supports, such as helping him judge the safety of his actions, and use emotional regulation skills. DSP will best assist by remaining casual with client and keeping a positive tone but maintain a clear structure. DSP can use timers, provide redirection as needed to task that he might otherwise delay or not finish (i.e. washing dishes, taking family dog out for a walk, taking out the trash, eat full meals, laundry, and brushing his teeth), encouraging him to ask for breaks and use his coping skills to prevent dysregulation, and giving him frequent reassurance. Experiences working with and appreciation for youth of color, and/or biracial identities is preferred.
