Who We Are

Cleveland Thermal has been keeping downtown Cleveland warm since 1894, and cool since 1993. As one of the few district energy systems of its kind in the U.S., we supply steam heat and chilled water to residential, commercial, government, and institutional customers across the city. Its infrastructure most people never see but rely on every day.

Were part of Corix, which designs, builds, and operates low-carbon district energy systems across North America. Together, we deliver reliable, efficient energy to communities, campuses, and new developments, helping them meet their climate goals without compromising on comfort.

About the Role

Every day of the year, buildings across downtown Cleveland rely on Cleveland Thermal for the steam and chilled water that heat and cool their spaces. As an Energy Production Operator, you help keep that service running. Youll operate and maintain the boilers, chillers, generators and supporting equipment at the heart of the plant, and youll make sure the system delivers clean, reliable energy 365 days a year.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes knowing how a system works from end to end. Youll make rounds from the basement to the roof, monitor pressures and temperatures, manage water chemistry, and keep the plant safe and efficient. Youll also work closely with a crew that depends on clear communication from shift to shift.

What Youll Do

- Follow all company safety and health policies and procedures. Inspect vehicles and equipment before use, write Safe Job Procedures when requested, and keep the plant, control room and vehicles clean and safe.

- Start, stop and operate boilers, chillers, generators and auxiliary equipment (forced draft fans, boiler feed pumps, compressors, etc.), keeping system pressures and temperatures on target to meet customer demand.

- Conduct regular rounds and daily walkdowns of the plant (all floors and roof) to inspect equipment and document performance. Create work orders and prioritize them by their impact on customer service.

- Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, oiling, greasing and repacking pumps and valves. Isolate equipment using lockout/tagout and assist with repairs to equipment and structures.

- Test boiler and softener water (hardness, pH, alkalinity, etc.), adjust chemical treatment, regenerate softeners, and mix treatment chemicals.

- Track reagent and bulk chemical inventory and unload chemical deliveries (acid, caustic, salt, drums).

- Take readings and samples and keep accurate, timely logs. Supply data for production reports, such as fuel and utility usage and steam and chilled water output.

- Communicate clearly with peers at shift change about completed and planned work, and support teammates in operating plant equipment safely.

- Respond quickly to emergency callouts.

- Provide guided facility tours for visitors, explaining the full production process and making sure guests wear proper safety gear and sign in and out.

- Perform other duties as required.
