# Position Summary
The Center for Implementation Research in Acute and Emergency Care (CIRCA) at Washington University in St. Louis Department of Emergency Medicine invites applications from early-career researchers interested in advancing infectious disease research through interdisciplinary scholarship and collaborative investigation. As a newly established research center, CIRCA is building foundational research on implementation science research across community and clinical environments. CIRCA’s mission is to advance implementation science research that centers on patients in emergency and acute care settings, such as the Emergency Department.

We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work closely with CIRCA faculty and collaborators to contribute to research improving infectious disease prevention, testing, linkage to care, treatment engagement, and health outcomes among patients in emergency and acute care settings. This could include focus on prevention, screening, or treatment of HIV, HCV, syphilis, or other conditions that could be delivered in the context of an Emergency Department visit. The candidates’ research experience may include clinical, observational, qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, and implementation-focused studies. This position offers an opportunity to strengthen research skills, contribute to collaborative scholarship, develop manuscripts and grant proposals, and establish an emerging independent research agenda.

Research activities will focus on improving uptake and engagement with infectious disease prevention, testing, diagnosis, linkage to care, treatment, and related health outcomes for patients in acute and emergency care contexts. Additional areas of inquiry may include social and structural drivers that influence access to services, care-seeking behaviors, patient and community engagement, and continuity across the care continuum. The research program may also examine how evidence-informed approaches are implemented and evaluated in clinical, community-based, and other real-world settings. Depending on the project, research may involve interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and domestic or international partnerships.

The specific projects and methodological responsibilities will depend on the funded research portfolio and the candidate’s background and expertise.

Research Focus

The research program may address the following areas:
• Infectious disease prevention, testing, diagnosis, linkage to care, treatment engagement, and related health outcomes.
• Patient, provider, community, and system-level factors influencing access to services and engagement across the care continuum.
• Implementation and evaluation of research-informed approaches in clinical, community- based, and other real-world settings.
• Collaborative research that connects scientific evidence with clinical practice, public health priorities, and community needs.
• Development and dissemination of findings that can inform future research, practice, and implementation strategies.
