About this role
The Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative is a coalition of leading academic, advocacy, government, industry, and philanthropy organizations that recognizes the need for dementia researchers to find easier ways to share unpublished data, analytical tools, and scientific findings. These partners are working together to accelerate progress towards new diagnostics, treatments, and cures in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).
In 2020, the AD Data Initiative publicly launched a non-profit organization to implement the mission of the AD Data Initiative coalition and lead us to a future where open data and global collaboration power the end of ADRD.
The AD Data Initiative removes silos by unlocking important ADRD datasets, enabling seamless access to interoperable data sharing platforms, empowering researchers and fostering collaboration to accelerate new breakthroughs.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the Alzheimer's Disease Workbench (AD Workbench), our secure, cloud-based data platform for ADRD research. You'll be accountable for AD Workbench end to end setting the roadmap, staying close to the researchers and partners who use it, keeping the platform healthy and cost-sustainable, and working closely with the Product & Engineering org to deliver what users need next.
This role sits at the intersection of user’s satisfaction, operations, and product. You'll know AD Workbench users deeply, bring clarity to fuzzy requirements, and carry the voice of the user into every product decision. You'll serve as the day-to-day owner of the AD Workbench partner relationship and oversee platform support delivered by our application management services (AMS) team. You won't work tickets yourself; instead, you'll bring the context behind each request and the judgment to confirm the team is focused on what matters most to users.
The right person is comfortable operating in a startup environment, pairs a strong customer focus with meticulous attention to detail, and treats cost as a product requirement. Clear, concise written and verbal communication with both executive and engineering stakeholders is critical to success, as is the habit of tracking and following up without being asked. A growth mindset, strong accountability, and the ability to learn quickly while consistently delivering results are essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
What you'll own
- Own the AD Workbench product roadmap end to end, leading quarterly and monthly goal setting and sign-off, and balancing near-term user needs against long-term platform scalability and clinical validity.
- Translate researcher and partner needs into a prioritized backlog, and make the call on trade-offs when engineering capacity, data governance requirements, and customer timelines pull in different directions.
- Drive high Net Satisfaction among existing and new users and partners and track it alongside adoption and platform health to guide iteration.
Users & partners
- Know AD Workbench users deeply: surface their pain points, bring clarity to fuzzy requirements, and act to close the gap between what the platform does today and what users need it to do.
- Field user questions and issues promptly, resolve what you can, and escalate early and clearly when you can't.
- Bring the voice of the user into product decisions, from backlog prioritization to roadmap reviews.
- Serve as the day-to-day owner of the AD Workbench partner relationship.
Platform support & costs
- Own the day-to-day health of AD Workbench support: review the incoming queue daily, understand what is breaking and why, and make sure nothing sits unattended.
- Partner with the AMS team that handles day-to-day support, bringing the context behind each request and confirming the team is prioritizing what matters most to users.
- Understand what AD Workbench costs to run and what drives those costs; keep spending within budget, monitor for unexpected spikes, and raise them promptly rather than letting them compound.
Internal coordination
- Keep leadership current on platform health, risks, and upcoming decisions, clearly and concisely, without needing to be asked.
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal communications on AD Workbench, tracking open items and following up through to resolution.
- Work closely with engineering to keep AD Workbench stable as the product evolves, providing additional detail and context on requirements when needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 5+ years of product management experience, including ownership of a data, cloud, or SaaS platform used by technical or research audiences.
- Demonstrated experience owning a product roadmap end to end, from user and partner discovery through prioritization, delivery, and iteration, and making clear trade-off decisions under competing constraints.
- Strong customer and partner orientation: able to turn ambiguous feedback into clear problem statements and requirements, and to manage partner relationships day to day.
- Experience overseeing production support or operations, ideally through a managed service (AMS) or vendor team: triaging issues, setting priorities, and holding teams to service levels.
- Cloud cost fluency: understanding what drives platform spend, monitoring it against budget, and acting quickly on anomalies.
- Sufficient technical fluency to work credibly with engineering on cloud platforms (Azure preferred), data access and security controls, and API/service design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to brief executives clearly and concisely and to give engineering the detail and context it needs.
- Strong organizational discipline: tracking commitments, following up, and closing loops across multiple stakeholders.
- Bonus: experience in a regulated, research, healthcare, or scientific-data domain, where privacy, data governance, and partner trust are first-order product constraints.
QUALIFICATIONS OR RELATED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, bioinformatics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. An advanced degree is a plus.
- Experience managing or supporting research data platforms, such as secure data environments, trusted research environments (TREs), data commons, or federated analysis systems.
- Experience working with managed service providers or vendor engineering teams, including SLA-based support models and ticketing tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, Zendesk).
- Experience with cloud cost management and FinOps practices, such as Azure Cost Management, budgeting, and spend alerting.
- Experience measuring user satisfaction (e.g., Net Satisfaction, NPS, CSAT) and using it to drive product decisions.
- Experience with Agile delivery and product tooling, such as Azure DevOps, Jira, and product analytics or user-feedback tools.
Bonus:
- Experience working in mission-driven organizations or with high-profile stakeholders.
- Experience in life sciences, ideally neuroscience or Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD).
