Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Database Engineering organization. This team develops and maintains a suite of database performance monitoring and related applications that help database professionals improve performance and productivity across multiple database platforms.

This role is a good fit for an engineer who enjoys building reliable, secure, and performant enterprise software and can take ownership of features within a product module from requirements through implementation, testing, and release. You will contribute to module-level design, solve customer problems within your area, and collaborate with peers on broader technical decisions while helping strengthen engineering quality through thoughtful practices and example.

You will contribute to the evolution of our Database Performance Analyzer solutions, partnering with product managers and engineers to deliver customer-focused capabilities across our products and platforms. You will also help the team adopt effective AI-agent and spec-driven development practices in day-to-day engineering work.

Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, test, and deliver features within a product module; contribute to module-level design and collaborate with senior engineers and peers on cross-module technical decisions.

- Clarify requirements, evaluate technical trade-offs, and contribute to solution design and implementation.

- Own technical problems end-to-end, from investigation and solution design through implementation, release, and follow-up with stakeholders.

- Apply and promote strong engineering practices, including maintainable coding patterns, unit and integration testing, observability, security, and performance considerations.

- Investigate and resolve complex defects, improve existing systems, and contribute to the reliability and scalability of our products.

- Work closely with peers, and other stakeholders to translate customer and business needs into robust engineering solutions.

- Use AI agents and AI-assisted engineering tools effectively, validating generated code and outputs for correctness, security, maintainability, and quality.

- Apply spec-driven development by helping shape clear specifications, using them to guide implementation and tests, and keeping them aligned with evolving requirements.

- Contribute to team planning and technical discussions, surface risks and dependencies early, and help deliver work predictably.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 6+ years of software development experience, or a Master’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or equivalent practical experience.

- Experience developing software with Java 11+ and the Spring Framework.

- Working knowledge of

JavaScript

- jQuery

- Angular (Nova Framework)

- SQL, and the Tomcat Application Server

- Ability to contribute to module-level design and independently implement, test, and deliver well-scoped features within a product area, collaborating across frontend and backend layers as needed.

- Demonstrated ownership of technical problems within an assigned module or product area, from requirements clarification through implementation, release, and follow-up.

- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including debugging, code review, automated testing, source control, and building maintainable, reliable applications.

- Experience applying DevOps practices and working with continuous integration and deployment pipelines is a plus.

- Practical experience using AI coding assistants or agents to improve engineering workflows, with the judgment to review, test, and validate generated code.

- Experience with spec-driven development, including translating requirements into clear specifications and using them to guide implementation and verification, is preferred.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to provide technical guidance, support peer reviews, and work effectively with engineering, product, and other stakeholders.
