We make health happen!
Technology can transform healthcare. But only when the foundations behind it are designed to connect, scale and ultimately make a difference to people’s lives.
At Bupa, our purpose is simple: helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world. As our transformation accelerates, with digital, data, technology and AI opening up new possibilities for how we serve our customers, great architecture has never mattered more.
As our Group Enterprise Architect, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the technology foundations that help bring that purpose to life. Working across Bupa’s businesses and technology communities around the world, you’ll connect thinking, create clarity from complexity and help turn bold strategic ambitions into enterprise architecture that can make a tangible difference to millions of customers.
This isn’t an architecture role that sits at a distance from the business. You’ll be at the heart of our Connected Care journey, helping us create the shared models, standards and architectural disciplines that enable our teams to move together with greater pace, confidence and consistency. The impact ultimately reaches far beyond technology: helping create simpler, more connected experiences and enabling Bupa to deliver better, more joined-up care for our customers.
You won’t do that through hierarchy. You’ll do it through credibility, curiosity and influence, bringing architects and engineers together across a diverse global organisation, challenging thinking constructively and making the complex clear, practical and actionable.
If you’re an Enterprise Architect who wants your work to mean something beyond the architecture itself, this is an opportunity to help shape the technology behind the future of healthcare.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
Strengthen our architecture culture, community and professional excellence
- Build trusted relationships across Bupa’s global architecture and engineering communities, creating an environment where teams actively share knowledge, patterns, assets and lessons learned.
- Strengthen our architecture community through purposeful forums, practical learning and shared standards, identifying opportunities to reuse proven solutions, capabilities and approaches across markets while respecting local context.
Manage global technology KPIs and transformation insight
- Lead the day-to-day management of Bupa’s global technology KPIs, maintaining clear definitions, controls, reporting rhythms and accountability, with particular stewardship of our strategic Cloud KPI.
- Turn performance data into clear, decision-useful insight for technology leaders, highlighting progress, trends, risks and actions, while ensuring our measures continue to reflect Bupa’s evolving technology and transformation priorities.
Maintain common architecture models and frameworks
- Maintain and evolve Bupa’s shared architecture models, taxonomies, principles, methods and frameworks, working with architecture and engineering teams to ensure they are practical, relevant and grounded in delivery.
- Create clear, accessible artefacts that help teams understand our enterprise landscape, make better design decisions and connect local change to our wider Group strategy.
Chair and develop the Bupa Architecture Council
- Chair and evolve the Bupa Architecture Council, creating a focused forum for constructive challenge, clear decision-making and accountable follow-through.
- Strengthen its connection to technology strategy, investment, engineering and delivery, using the Council to tackle shared challenges, accelerate reuse and strengthen architecture practice across Bupa.
Provide cross-Bupa architecture thought leadership
- Lead and contribute to complex architecture topics that cross businesses and markets, bringing together technical and business perspectives to create clear, coherent direction and practical implications for Bupa.
- Build informed perspectives on emerging architecture and AI, considering the capabilities, platforms, data, engineering practices, operating models and controls needed to realise value at scale, and communicate these through high-quality outputs for senior technology audiences.
Contribute to a multi-disciplinary expert team
- Work closely with colleagues across Group Technology and Group Strategy and Transformation, bringing your architecture expertise to shared priorities and joined-up thinking.
- Contribute generously to collective outcomes, bringing your perspective while remaining open to challenge, different disciplines and new ideas.
Key Skills & Experience needed for this role:
We’re looking for an experienced architecture professional who combines strong technical foundations with the ability to see the bigger picture, create clarity from complexity and influence across a global organisation. You’ll bring:
- Significant architecture experience gained within a large, global/federated organisation, whether across enterprise, solution, domain or platform architecture, with the breadth to think beyond an individual technology or business area.
- Strong enterprise architecture capability, able to connect business strategy and outcomes with capabilities, information, applications, platforms and technology to shape coherent enterprise-wide direction.
- A strong grounding in architecture practice, including principles, methods, modelling and governance, coupled with a practical understanding of engineering and delivery and how architecture translates into real-world outcomes.
- Experience of technology transformation at scale, helping organisations move towards a shared strategic direction through common frameworks, standards, architectural insight and cross-enterprise initiatives.
- The ability to create clarity from complexity, comfortable navigating ambiguity, framing complex problems and bringing together different perspectives to develop pragmatic, actionable solutions.
- Credibility and influence across organisational boundaries, with experience bringing together senior stakeholders, architects and engineers across different businesses, markets or geographies, creating alignment while recognising legitimate local differences.
- Clear and compelling communication, able to make complex architecture and technology understandable to different audiences and turn your thinking into high-quality analysis, recommendations and presentations for senior technology leaders.
- A strong interest in AI and modern technology, with an understanding of the architecture and capabilities needed to enable AI at enterprise scale, including the importance of data, platforms, integration, security, governance and engineering practices.
- Curiosity, judgement and pragmatism, bringing fresh thinking and well-informed perspectives while staying focused on what will genuinely enable progress, rather than architecture for architecture’s sake.
- Experience within healthcare, health insurance, financial services or another regulated environment would be valuable, but isn’t essential.
