About this role
Reports to: Director of Structures
Type: Full-Time
The Role
Critical structural decisions on Scout ACP will depend on aircraft loads and its dynamic behaviour. If they're late, wrong or out of step with the current configuration, the structure wil ens up too heavy or short on margin, and the program finds out at the next design gate instead of before it. Your job is to make sure the program finds out early.
You lead loads, aeroelasticity and vehicle dynamics for Scout ACP, from initial development through each phase and maturity gate and into sustainment. You run the load loops, release the loads the other teams design to, and build the tools and processes that keep that cycle repeatable as the aircraft matures. You set the loads standard on a Canadian aircraft program from the ground up.
What You'll Do
- Lead the loads, aeroelastic and vehicle dynamics analyses for Scout ACP, and set the standard the rest of the program designs to.
- Plan, run and release load loops at each critical design gate, so every team is working from a current, traceable load set.
- Pull together inputs from across the program, including configuration, mass properties, aerodynamics and controls, so the loads keep pace as the design changes.
- Build and improve the tools, scripts and processes behind the loads cycle, so each loop runs faster, is documented and doesn't depend on one person's spreadsheet.
- Produce the loads and dynamics substantiation that supports design reviews and program maturity gates.
- Support the aircraft into sustainment by assessing how modifications, new configurations and in-service findings affect the loads.
What You Bring
- More than 7–10 years in loads, aeroelasticity or structural dynamics, with demonstrated accomplishments on a certified aerospace program.
- Strong hands-on experience with MSC Nastran and finite element analysis applied to loads and dynamics work and in preparation of the models required.
- Experience running load loops and releasing loads to design teams through program design gates.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
Nice to Have
- Experience at a startup or early-stage aerospace company, where processes are still being built and you set up the loads function rather than inherit it.
- Experience with additional FEM, aeroelastic or loads tools beyond Nastran.
- Scripting in Python or MATLAB to automate load loops and post-processing.
- Exposure to ground vibration testing, flutter testing or flight-loads test programs.
- Experience carrying a program from early development through certification and into sustainment.
No defence background required.
