About this role

The Assistant Project Manager supports BHC’s Owner’s Representative team on assigned luxury hospitality construction projects. This role manages the day-to-day execution of construction activities under the direction of the Project Manager and Project Director, helping deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to BHC’s quality standards. The Assistant Project Manager is a consistent field presence on active projects, coordinating with consultants, contractors, and internal teams while building the skills and relationships needed to take on increasing responsibility.

BHC builds and owns its properties for the long term. That ownership model means construction decisions are evaluated not just for cost and schedule but for durability, guest experience, and operational functionality over the life of the asset. The Assistant Project Manager works within that framework from day one, learning to see construction through an owner’s lens.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Field Presence and Owner’s Representation

- Serve as BHC’s on-site representative for day-to-day construction activities, alongside the Project Manager.
- Support the Project Manager and Project Director in protecting BHC’s interests in cost, schedule, quality, and long-term durability.
- Coordinate with consultant and contractor teams daily, escalating issues to the Project Manager as needed.
- Represent BHC’s standards for quality, integrity, and professionalism in all project interactions.

Project Execution and Quality Standards

- Support one or more concurrent projects, including renovations, repositionings, and ground-up development, under the direction of the Project Manager.
- Document construction quality, detailing, and finishes against BHC’s standards, flagging work in progress that falls short of expectations.
- Participate in regular site reviews, mock-up evaluations, and stakeholder walkthroughs with the Project Manager, Project Director, and design teams.
- Observe and report on design intent, craftsmanship, and material quality throughout construction.
- Support project closeout activities, including documentation, punch list management, and turnover to operations and facilities teams.

Financial Tracking and Cost Control

- Track project budgets, contingencies, and cash flow forecasts, flagging variances to the Project Manager.
- Prepare and log contracts, pay applications, procurement documentation, and change orders for Project Manager review.
- Support cost control efforts without compromising BHC’s expectations for quality, longevity, and guest experience.

Schedule and Risk Management

- Update project schedules, track milestones, and flag delays to the Project Manager.
- Identify potential risks early and raise them with a suggested solution when possible.
- Assist with coordinating phased turnovers and opening strategies with hospitality operations teams.

Communication and Cross-Functional Coordination

- Prepare clear project status reports, meeting minutes, and updates for the Project Manager and Project Director.
- Coordinate with Design, Development, Asset Management, and Hospitality Operations teams to keep operational efficiency and guest experience in view as construction decisions are made.
- Work with internal design execution teams and external partners on design coordination and field decisions.
- Participate in post-opening evaluations and long-term performance reviews.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum of five years of experience in construction project management, coordination, or a related role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field required.
- Experience on hospitality, resort, mixed-use, or high-end commercial projects.
- Owner’s Representative, developer-side, design, or general contractor background with exposure to owner priorities. A strong internship or early-career track record in a relevant setting also qualifies.
- Working knowledge of contracts, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with owner-operated or long-term hold environments preferred.
- Ground-up and complex renovation experience preferred.
- Exposure to high-end independent or luxury-branded hospitality projects preferred.
