About the Opportunity
Location: SRM Home Office – Murfreesboro, TN Employment Type: Full-time | On-site
SRM Concrete’s Information Technology team supports a growing nationwide network of ready-mix plants, quarries, terminals, shops, offices, and other operations. We build and maintain the technology that helps our teammates serve customers and keep the business moving.
We are seeking a hands-on Network Engineer who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems, and brings a collaborative, can-do attitude to supporting our corporate and field operations.
The Network Engineer will design, implement, monitor, and support reliable, secure network infrastructure across SRM’s nationwide operations. This role covers LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, firewalls, switching, wireless, cloud connectivity, and network disaster recovery.
You will help advance our SD-WAN strategy, strengthen redundancy and failover, improve network visibility, and standardize connectivity across existing locations and new acquisitions. Success requires strong technical skills, clear communication, and a practical understanding of how network availability affects daily operations.
Your Mission & Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, and internet connectivity across corporate, field, and disaster recovery locations.
- Help evaluate, test, deploy, and support SD-WAN solutions, including application-aware routing, path selection, quality of service, and integration with existing firewalls.
- Design and validate high-availability network architectures, including redundant equipment, diverse circuits, cellular backup, automatic failover, and recovery to normal operation.
- Configure and troubleshoot SonicWall firewalls, SonicWall and Dell switches, enterprise wireless access points, and related network infrastructure.
- Support Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, including VLANs, routing, spanning tree, link aggregation, network segmentation, and QoS.
- Implement and support 802.1X authentication for wired and wireless network access, including integration with RADIUS and coordination with security and systems teammates.
- Deploy and optimize indoor and outdoor wireless networks, including connectivity for offices, shops, industrial environments, cameras, and IoT devices.
- Support multiple connectivity options, including fiber, broadband, LTE/5G, fixed wireless, satellite, and point-to-point wireless.
- Improve proactive monitoring, logging, and alerting for availability, bandwidth utilization, latency, packet loss, interface errors, equipment health, and failover events.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues across carrier circuits, firewalls, switching, wireless, and cloud connections; identify root causes and implement lasting improvements.
- Partner with security teammates to maintain firewall policies, secure remote access, segmentation, and network security standards.
- Support connectivity between on-premises systems, cloud environments, and the disaster recovery site; participate in recovery planning and failover testing.
- Coordinate with carriers, managed service providers, equipment vendors, and cabling contractors on installations, outages, escalations, and service delivery.
- Support new locations and acquisitions through site assessments, equipment sizing, deployment planning, and consistent network standards.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, circuit and equipment inventories, configurations, backups, change records, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Plan and execute firmware updates, equipment replacements, and other network changes with appropriate testing, communication, and rollback procedures.
- Provide Tier 3 support for complex incidents affecting corporate and field operations, including after-hours escalation support as needed. This position serves as an escalation resource and is not the first point of contact for the on-call rotation.
What Sets You Apart
- Five or more years of experience in network engineering or a related infrastructure role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
- Basic understanding of the OSI model and how to apply it when troubleshooting network issues.
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls, managed switches, routers, and wireless networks.
- Understanding of routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, network redundancy, and high-availability designs.
- Basic understanding of 802.1X, RADIUS, and authentication for wired and wireless network access.
- Experience supporting distributed, multisite networks and troubleshooting issues involving internet service providers and telecommunications carriers.
- Familiarity with SD-WAN concepts, multiple WAN connections, traffic prioritization, and failover.
- Experience using network monitoring tools, logs, and packet captures to investigate performance and availability issues.
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize operational needs, follow through on commitments, and communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical teammates.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SonicWall firewalls and switches, Dell Networking/OS10, and enterprise wireless platforms.
- Experience deploying or supporting SD-WAN, including proof-of-concept testing and failover validation.
- Experience with outdoor wireless, cellular backup, point-to-point or millimeter-wave links, satellite connectivity, and industrial or IoT environments.
- Familiarity with Azure or OCI networking, private cloud connectivity, and disaster recovery environments.
- Experience with centralized network management, configuration backups, scripting, or network automation.
- Relevant networking or IT certifications are a plus.
