###

The Position

The Roche Consultant (RC) demonstrates the end-to-end value of Roche’s Molecular Diagnostics portfolio and Roche Consulting (RC) services. Working with hospitals, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), and reference laboratories, the RC assesses complex molecular testing operations, identifies workflow challenges, and develops practical, evidence-based recommendations that improve efficiency, quality, safety, and turnaround times.

Through customer engagement, workflow analysis, capacity modeling, and continuous improvement, the RC evaluates people, processes, instrumentation, and connected automation across the molecular laboratory. This role supports customers from solution planning and installation readiness through post-installation optimization, helping translate operational data and customer priorities into sustainable improvements.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advanced Molecular Workflow & Technical Consulting

- Assess end-to-end molecular testing workflows, including specimen receipt and accessioning, sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, amplification and detection, result reporting, and specimen disposition.
- Analyze testing volumes, assay mix, peak demand, staffing, shift coverage, instrument utilization, laboratory layout, bottlenecks, and turnaround times to identify operational improvement opportunities.
- Apply standardized end-to-end consulting approaches—including process mapping, data analysis, capacity modeling, and rapid improvement methods—to deliver differentiated, evidence-based recommendations.
- Apply working knowledge of cobas 5800/6800/8800 systems, the cobas prime pre-analytical system, and connected molecular automation, including cobas connection modules (CCM), to evaluate integrated workflow requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve assay scheduling, STAT versus routine prioritization, sample flow, analyzer capacity, and utilization while considering quality, safety, and continuity of operations.
- Assess molecular laboratory connectivity and data-flow considerations, including laboratory information systems (LIS), middleware, instrument interfaces, and information handoffs that affect workflow performance.

Pre-Sales, Automation Implementation & Customer Partnership

- Support the Molecular automation implementation process through pre-sales and post-sales workflow assessments, solution planning, installation readiness, and coordination of workflow requirements and handoffs with Implementation teams.

- Perform Workflow Planning Events (WPEs) for cobas prime, pre-analytical, and connected automation opportunities; assess end-to-end sample flow, customer requirements, capacity, operational risks, and potential workflow showstoppers to inform solution design and implementation planning.

- Complete and contribute to customer-specific cobas prime and connected automation implementation workbooks, documenting workflow requirements, operational assumptions, system configuration inputs, customer decisions, and outstanding action items to support implementation planning and cross-functional handoffs.

- Partner with customers and Roche Sales, Applications, Service, IT, and Implementation teams to communicate workflow findings, support solution and configuration decisions, and ensure requirements and open issues are clearly transferred to downstream teams.

- Present and contribute to customer primers for standalone cobas prime, pre-analytical, and connected automation accounts, helping customers understand workflow capabilities, limitations, key decisions, and readiness expectations before WPEs. Deliver Visioning Workshops, Lab Collaboration Modeling, and Rapid Improvement Methodologies.

Communication, Quality & Practice Excellence

- Contribute field feedback, WPE findings, and implementation lessons learned to improve MD automation playbooks, primers, consulting templates, and standardized processes; maintain customer deliverables and project documentation.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are an analytical, customer-focused professional with a strong understanding of molecular laboratory operations and the judgment to solve complex workflow challenges. You build credibility with laboratory teams, turn technical findings into practical recommendations, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders in a fast-moving, matrixed organization. You are equally comfortable examining detailed operational data and communicating the broader value of a proposed solution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Sciences, or closely related scientific/technical discipline.
- Experience with process mapping, statistical and reporting tools
- 5 years of experience in Operations, Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, or equivalent, including experience in successfully leading cross-functional teams in driving results

Preferred Qualifications:

- 5+ years of experience in a clinical molecular laboratory involving specimen processing, nucleic acid extraction, molecular amplification and detection, and high-volume molecular testing operations.
- MLT/MLS/MB ASCP certification.

- Knowledge of connected molecular automation, CCM, pre-analytical systems, specimen routing, sample tracking, and associated integration or operational considerations.
- Ability to evaluate analyzer capacity, instrument throughput, assay mix, sample prioritization, staffing, laboratory space, and turnaround time performance.
- Experience performing workflow assessments, process mapping, laboratory design evaluations, and data-driven operational improvement; knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles.
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and middleware; familiarity with molecular interfaces, Roche Infinity where applicable, and data flow across connected workflows.
- Knowledge of CAP, CLIA, and The Joint Commission requirements applicable to clinical molecular laboratory operations and quality processes.
- Customer-facing experience in consulting, applications, service, or sales; strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Roche and competitor molecular diagnostics solutions; able and willing to travel >75% of the time, including overnight travel, and reside near a major metropolitan airport.
