About this role

Location: Aurora, CO Compensation: $83,000 - $100,000

Keep projects moving. Connect office and field. Build your future.

RK Mechanical is looking for an engaged Assistant Project Manager who brings organization, attention to detail, and follow-through to complex mechanical construction projects. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers and field leaders to coordinate submittals, procurement, schedules, budgets, and change orders. From kickoff to closeout, you’ll help connect office planning with field execution and keep project priorities moving forward.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle, sharpen your technical coordination and problem-solving skills, and grow toward a leadership role in mechanical construction.

What You’ll Do

- Coordinate day-to-day project team activities, pre-construction turnover meetings, and project schedules to keep assigned work on track and within budget.
- Manage project administration, contracts, permits, licenses, and documentation to protect RK Mechanical and its clients and support project closeout.
- Coordinate material and equipment procurement with purchasing, aligning buyout plans with project schedules and budgets; negotiate, prepare, and process subcontract agreements.
- Oversee submittal reviews, approvals, and logs so field teams have the information needed to execute the work.
- Develop and maintain project budgets, track costs, forecast financial performance, and prepare monthly contract valuations.
- Prepare billing schedules of values, review subcontractor and supplier invoices, and manage progress billings, payment collection, and retention releases to maintain an overbilled cash position.
- Price, negotiate, and process change conditions and change orders.
- Coordinate field staffing and labor resource planning, monitor productivity, and oversee tools and rental equipment so unused resources are returned promptly.

What You’ll Bring

- A college or university degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Advanced technical knowledge and the ability to apply relevant principles and practices across varied project assignments.
- Independent judgment when resolving complex issues and selecting methods, with guidance on overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
- The ability to coordinate with internal and external teams and act independently within your area of responsibility.
