Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Campus Fiber Infrastructure Construction Monitor to support construction of mission-critical data center campus fiber and telecommunications infrastructure in Texas. This field-based position is intended for an experienced construction professional with a strong understanding of underground utilities, telecommunications conduit systems, civil construction, construction drawings and field quality processes. The Construction Monitor will serve as AECOM's on-site representative, documenting whether observed work is consistent with approved drawings, project requirements, applicable construction standards and established quality requirements.

The position requires a professional who can work effectively in an active construction environment, coordinate with construction managers, general contractors, subcontractors and technical teams, and maintain accurate, objective field documentation.

This will be an on-site position at our offices in Houston, Texas.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Monitoring and Field Coordination

- Provide on-site monitoring of civil and telecommunications infrastructure construction.
- Monitor installation of underground conduit systems, duct banks, manholes, handholes, vaults, points of entry and related campus fiber infrastructure.
- Observe construction activities and document installation progress, field conditions and potential quality concerns.
- Monitor construction progress against planned activities and project milestones.
- Participate in construction coordination meetings and communicate field observations, outstanding items and potential schedule impacts.
- Coordinate with construction managers, general contractors, fiber teams and other project stakeholders.
- Identify potential conflicts, incomplete work and conditions that could affect future fiber installation or infrastructure readiness.

Drawing and Design Review

- Read and interpret civil, telecommunications and fiber construction drawings.
- Review relevant CAD, BIM and GIS information to understand planned infrastructure locations and requirements.
- Compare observed field conditions with approved construction documentation.
- Identify apparent conflicts, omissions or deviations and escalate them through established project  channels.
- Support pre-construction review of conduit routes, vault locations, points of entry and other            telecommunications infrastructure.

Quality Monitoring

- Observe installation of conduit, duct banks, vaults, manholes, handholes and related civil infrastructure.
- Document observed conduit routing, installation depth, materials and installation conditions.
- Observe conduit encasement and other critical construction activities when required.
- Monitor conduit proofing and mandrel-testing activities.
- Document nonconforming or potentially nonconforming conditions and communicate observations to the appropriate project representatives.
- Track identified issues through resolution and maintain clear supporting documentation.
- Support project closeout and verification of completed telecommunications infrastructure.
- Use GIS-based field applications to capture construction and inspection information.
- Maintain accurate location-based records for installed campus infrastructure.
- Capture photographs and supporting field information associated with observations.
- Support maintenance of accurate records for conduit, vaults, points of entry and other campus      telecommunications infrastructure.
- Assist with verification of record and as-built information against observed field conditions.
- Maintain complete and organized field records suitable for project reporting and closeout documentation.

Reporting and Communication

- Prepare clear and concise field reports documenting construction progress, observations, quality issues and outstanding items.
- Provide timely escalation of significant quality, schedule, safety or infrastructure concerns.
- Maintain issue and action-item tracking as required by the program.
- Communicate effectively with AECOM and client project leadership.
- Participate in recurring construction and program coordination meetings.
- Provide factual, objective and well-supported field documentation.

Role Boundary

The Construction Monitor documents observed conditions and provides recommendations based on those observations. Final acceptance of construction remains with the client or other designated project authority. The role does not relieve contractors of responsibility for construction means, methods, sequencing, safety, testing, workmanship or contractual compliance.
