Job Description
HII Mission Technologies is seeking a technically skilled software-focused Field Support Engineer / Representative to support the deployment, integration, operation, troubleshooting, and demonstration of advanced Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) software capabilities.
This position serves as the technical bridge between the GRIMM software engineering team and operational users. The successful candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of Linux-based software systems, networking, software configuration, scripting, system diagnostics, and application troubleshooting and will apply those skills in laboratory, integration, training, demonstration, and field environments.
This role is best suited for an individual with software engineering, systems integration, DevSecOps, IT/networking, or technically oriented military EW/SIGINT experience who enjoys working directly with users and solving software and system-level problems in operational environments.
The Field Support Engineer will work closely with software developers, systems engineers, EW subject-matter experts, program management, and government customers to ensure GRIMM capabilities are correctly configured, integrated, understood, and successfully employed during customer events and operational demonstrations.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Deploy and configure EW software: Install, configure, update, and validate GRIMM software applications and associated services across development, integration, demonstration, and field environments.
- Troubleshoot software: Diagnose application failures, software configuration issues, service failures, communications problems, data-flow issues, and software/hardware interface problems.
- Linux system administration: Perform routine Linux administration supporting fielded systems, including process/service management, permissions, file systems, networking, software packages, system logs, and configuration files.
- Software release support: Support deployment and verification of software releases, patches, configuration updates, and mission-specific software builds. Verify installation integrity and document deployed configurations.
- Log and diagnostic analysis: Collect and analyze application, operating-system, network, and system logs to identify root causes and provide actionable information to software engineering teams.
- Networking and connectivity: Configure and troubleshoot IP-based communications between GRIMM components, sensors, user interfaces, and external systems using tools such as SSH, ping, traceroute, tcpdump/Wireshark, and related network utilities.
- Scripting and automation: Develop or modify basic Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripts to automate configuration, deployment, diagnostic, data-management, and system-support tasks.
- System integration: Support integration of GRIMM software with RF/EW sensors, external data sources, networks, command-and-control applications, and other government or third-party systems.
- Field demonstrations and exercises: Configure and operate GRIMM capabilities during integration events, demonstrations, exercises, experimentation, and operational assessments. Troubleshoot problems in real time to maintain event objectives.
- Software verification: Execute acceptance procedures, regression checks, system health checks, and operational workflows following software updates or configuration changes.
- User support and instruction: Provide hands-on instruction to operators and technical users covering software operation, configuration, system startup/shutdown, mission workflows, troubleshooting, and basic system administration.
- Engineering reach-back: Reproduce field-discovered software issues, collect appropriate logs and diagnostic artifacts, document conditions and steps to reproduce, and coordinate resolution with software and systems engineering teams.
- Issue tracking: Document software defects, field observations, enhancement requests, and integration issues using the program’s issue-tracking/configuration-management environment.
- Technical documentation: Develop and maintain installation procedures, configuration guides, troubleshooting procedures, operator documentation, release notes, quick-reference materials, and field-support knowledge.
- Customer interface: Serve as a technically credible onsite representative capable of communicating directly with government operators, engineers, and program personnel while maintaining close coordination with the GRIMM development team.
