As our Staff Software Engineer, Platform Engineering, you will lead the architecture and hands-on delivery of Phare Fiber, a new integration layer that will enable applications across Phare OS to share data and state. You will define the event, API, identity, and data contracts behind the platform, ship the first production use case with a small engineering team, and turn that foundation into reusable capabilities other application teams can adopt. As the platform grows, you will also help set technical direction across the broader Application Platform portfolio. To thrive in this role, you must have deep experience building and operating event-driven distributed systems, strong technical judgment across service and data architecture, and the ability to lead across teams while remaining hands-on.
Here’s what you will experience working as a Staff Software Engineer, Platform Engineering:
- Lead the technical architecture for Phare Fiber, defining identity and join-key contracts, event and API contracts, schema evolution, delivery patterns and guarantees, cross-cloud connectivity, and tenant and PHI boundaries.
- Write production code and ship the first use case end to end with a measurable outcome, then build the client libraries, onboarding patterns, and contract-review processes that make the platform reusable across application teams.
- Lead design reviews across the Application Platform portfolio and establish engineering standards for testing, API design, backward compatibility, and operational readiness.
- Partner with product and engineering leaders across Phare OS applications, Data Platform, Infrastructure, and Security to set technical direction and prioritize work around measurable outcomes.
- Own what you build in production through SLOs, observability, on-call, and incident response while mentoring engineers across the team.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of experience building and operating production distributed systems, including 5+ years setting technical direction across multiple teams or a significant platform.
- Expertise building and operating production event-driven systems using Apache Kafka or an equivalent platform.
- Experience integrating heterogeneous systems through backward-compatible APIs and event contracts.
- Experience with event-driven data architectures using Spark, Databricks, or an equivalent lakehouse platform.
- Staff-level technical leadership across teams while remaining hands-on with production systems.
