What You'll Be Doing:
We're seeking two Electrical Engineers, one Senior (EE lead) and one Mid-to-Senior, to join a nearshore engineering team in Costa Rica supporting a new product introduction for a global leader in test and measurement: an ultra-low pressure primary calibration standard. Both engineers will work across the full electrical scope, from redesigning legacy precision boards for obsolescence to designing new boards from scratch, working closely with the client's Lead EE, PCB layout engineer, and our firmware and embedded Linux engineers.
Core Responsibilities:
- Redesign legacy precision analog and mixed-signal PCBAs (main, pass-thru, and pressure controller boards), replacing obsolete A2D converters, instrumentation amplifiers, voltage references, mechanical relays, and sensors.
- Design new boards: a carrier board for an NXP i.MX95-class system-on-module (Ethernet, USB host, USB-C display output), a USB-to-multi-port RS-232 bridge board with a secure microcontroller, and a mains relay board.
- Design AC/DC and DC/DC power delivery networks, including power budgets and rail lists for the system-on-module and supporting electronics.
- Capture schematics (Cadence System Capture), select components for long availability and EU RoHS compliance, and deliver BOMs and design packages for review; PCB layout is performed by the client.
- Bring up and debug prototype boards and support system integration with firmware and embedded Linux engineers.
- Design for CSA safety and EMC compliance, including mains-switching hardware, and support the client's compliance testing with design fixes.
- Senior/Lead: set technical direction for the EE work, run design reviews, and act as the main EE contact with the client's Lead EE.
Requirements and Skills:
- Mid-to-Senior: 5+ years, Senior/Lead: 8+ years of experience after a BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Analog and mixed-signal schematic design for precision measurement instrumentation.
- AC/DC and DC/DC power supply and power delivery network design.
- Serial interface design: RS-232, USB (including USB-to-serial bridging), SPI, and I2C.
- Board bring-up and debugging with oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers, and debug probes.
- Schematic capture in Cadence, OrCAD/Allegro, Altium, or equivalent.
- Ability to move between legacy obsolescence redesign and net-new design in the same engagement, working independently with competing priorities.
- English (proficiency in speaking and writing).
Preferred Qualifications
- Carrier board design for system-on-modules (NXP i.MX or similar), including Ethernet, USB host, and USB-C display.
- Mains-powered equipment design for safety (CSA/UL/IEC 61010) and EMC compliance.
- FPGA or glue-logic selection, including GPIB interfaces.
- Experience in test and measurement or calibration instruments, or obsolescence redesign programs.
- Hardware security features: secure microcontrollers, debug port lockdown, battery-backed RTC, and hardware watchdogs.
- Use of AI-assisted engineering tools within client policies.
Why Join Us?
