About this role
POsition Summary
Cardinal Civil Contracting is a heavy civil and site development contractor and part of Cardinal Infrastructure Group (Nasdaq: CDNL), a publicly traded infrastructure company with operations across the Carolinas and Atlanta metro and expansion underway into Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
The Dump Truck Driver keeps Cardinals site work moving by hauling dirt, stone, pipe bedding, rip rap, millings, and debris on and off active job sites. This role supports grading, utility, and paving crews by keeping a steady flow of material, from import and export runs to quarries and disposal sites to on-site hauls from cut to fill.
Key Responsibilities
Material Hauling & Site Support
- Operate a tandem, tri-axle, or quad-axle dump truck (and tractor-trailer end dump where qualified) to haul soil, aggregate, ABC stone, rip rap, asphalt millings, and debris between jobsites, quarries, plants, and disposal sites
- Work alongside excavator and loader operators to load efficiently; position the truck as directed, follow spotter signals, and keep the haul cycle moving to support daily production
- Dump and spread material at designated locations; check ground stability, slope, and overhead power lines before raising the bed, and confirm the bed is fully lowered before moving
- Navigate active job sites with soft, muddy, or uneven ground, haul roads, and tight work zones while watching for crews, equipment, and pedestrians
- Communicate with dispatchers, project managers, foremen, and flaggers to coordinate deliveries, work through traffic, and move safely around congested job sites
- Assist ground crews as needed when not hauling (e.g., shoveling and clearing material, cleaning tailgates, and keeping haul roads and entrances clear)
Truck Care & Site Compliance
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections (DVIR) of truck, bed, tailgate, hydraulics, brakes, and tires; report defects and keep the truck clean and greased.
- Make sure material is loaded evenly, then tarp and secure every load before leaving a site or quarry, stay within legal weight limits, and keep public roads free of spilled or tracked material
- Use stabilized construction entrances and wash-down areas as directed, and follow site erosion and sediment control measures to keep mud off public streets
- Perform basic field maintenance (fluids, lights, tires, greasing) and report any truck damage or mechanical issues right away
Records & Documentation
- Collect and turn in scale tickets, delivery and load tickets, daily load counts, and fuel receipts accurately and on time
- Maintain Hours-of-Service records via ELD or the short-haul exemption as applicable, and keep CDL, DOT medical card, and endorsements current
Safety & Compliance
- Model and enforce Cardinals safety program; participate in daily safety briefings, stop work when conditions are unsafe, and report all incidents, near misses, and property damage immediately
- Comply with company policies, OSHA regulations, and FMCSA and federal and state DOT requirements (Hours of Service, vehicle inspection, load securement and covering, weight limits, drug and alcohol testing), plus site erosion control requirements applicable to the role
