About this role
About Focused Energy
Focused Energy is building the future of clean energy through laser-driven inertial fusion. Backed by our $240M Series A — the largest fully secured Series A in the global fusion industry — we are scaling rapidly across multiple geographies.
Based in Germany and the US, we have brought together the top scientific and engineering minds using proven technologies to unlock fusion power at commercial scale. Focused Energy is working to realize game-changing scientific innovation that promises to deliver a clean, sustainable and abundant source of power globally.
Your Role
Building a fusion company across two continents takes focus, strong relationships and thoughtful coordination. Our CEO works closely with investors, governments, strategic partners and the leadership team. You create the structure that helps him use his time effectively and arrive prepared.
This is the most senior executive support role at Focused Energy. You will work directly with the CEO as part of a closely coordinated CEO Office, in partnership with and reporting to the Chief of Staff. You will take ownership of the operational infrastructure supporting the CEO, including diary and calendar management, travel coordination, executive administration and stakeholder logistics. The Chief of Staff leads strategic priorities, substantive briefings, executive alignment and follow-through on key decisions. You ensure the practical arrangements and information flow support those priorities effectively.
When a delegation trip with twelve meetings across three countries changes at short notice, you bring the overview and experience to rebuild the plan, coordinate the people involved and keep everyone informed. You enjoy solving complex logistics and creating clarity when plans change.
You will exercise sound judgment and make day-to-day decisions independently within agreed parameters, knowing when to escalate strategic conflicts or sensitive matters. You will help establish reliable, efficient ways of working as the CEO Office develops.
You represent the CEO Office to investors, ministries, partner companies and board members. As the most experienced EA in the company, you also help shape how executive support works across Focused Energy.
What You'll Do
- Plan and coordinate the CEO’s domestic and international travel, including complex delegations, conferences and investor or government engagements.
- Own itineraries, participants, visas, invitations, registrations, protocol requirements, ground logistics, contingency arrangements and live coordination during trips.
- Be willing to accompany the CEO internationally when needed, independently or alongside the Chief of Staff, while providing effective remote support on trips you do not attend.
- Maintain a clear overview of upcoming commitments and what each requires. Anticipate conflicts, preparation needs and logistical dependencies, and act early.
- Coordinate the timely preparation, collation and distribution of briefing materials, working with the Chief of Staff and relevant content owners.
- Maintain clear administrative follow-up and ensure decisions, commitments and emerging priorities are promptly communicated to the Chief of Staff for strategic follow-through.
- Build trusted relationships with investors, ministries, agencies, partner companies, board members and their offices.
- Keep the CEO Office running effectively, including expenses, approvals, signatures, tools, records and contact management.
- Help develop shared standards for calendar management, travel, tools and confidentiality, supporting collaboration and teamwork across the EA team, both locally and internationally.
Who You Are
- You bring ten or more years of experience in executive support, including several years supporting a CEO, founder or managing director in an international business with extensive travel and calendar management. Experience in a growing company or investor environment is a plus.
- You have supported highly driven, fast-moving executives and can bring structure to changing or incomplete requests.
- You have managed complex delegation trips involving multiple participants, countries and official meetings.
- You combine strong organisation, judgment and emotional intelligence with a calm, adaptable style and are comfortable partnering with a Chief of Staff while maintaining a direct, trusted relationship with the CEO.
- You understand competing priorities and can make confident decisions within your remit.
- You protect an executive’s time with diplomacy and build constructive relationships with the people seeking it.
- You are comfortable working with board members, investors, ministries and senior executives, as well as the teams supporting them.
- You work proactively, identifying scheduling conflicts, travel requirements and preparation needs before they become urgent.
- You stay composed when plans change, communicate clearly and know when to bring others into a decision.
- You handle sensitive board, investor, M&A and personnel matters with discretion.
- You use modern scheduling and collaboration tools confidently and are interested in using AI thoughtfully to reduce repetitive work.
- You are fluent in English and German.
- You are based in Berlin, or willing to relocate, and comfortable travelling with the CEO when needed.
A Word On Pace
This is a demanding role, with a strong emphasis on complex calendar management, exceptional attention to detail and the delivery of high-level, hands-on executive support to the CEO of a rapidly growing international company. Priorities can shift quickly and some trips or commitments require flexibility at short notice. It calls for someone who enjoys responsibility, stays calm under pressure and communicates clearly about priorities and capacity.
In return, you can expect meaningful ownership, a close working partnership with the CEO and Chief of Staff, and the opportunity to help shape how the CEO Office operates. You will be trusted to exercise judgment within agreed responsibilities and escalation parameters.
