About this role
Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As a Senior Engineer in Safety Systems Integration, you will lead and manage the complete design cycle of safety restraint systems, including airbags and pedestrian protection features. Your responsibilities will encompass developing detailed proposals grounded in conceptual designs, ensuring comprehensive packaging and feasibility assessments of restraint components. You will map and analyse the airbag impact zones such as CAB, SAB, and KAB, alongside creating pedestrian mapping zones within vehicle CAD models to optimise safety performance.
Key deliverables include the creation and management of Bills of Material (BoM), part number generation, and the preparation of detailed drawings for release and homologation. You'll oversee the release of design documents through defined gateways and prepare clearance documentation including lessons learned to ensure continuous improvement.
We expect you to actively plan, conduct, and document Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Reviews (DR), collaborating closely with suppliers during development phases. You will be pivotal in following up on Design Verification Plans (DVP) and addressing design activities to resolve concerns related to restraint systems, including troubleshooting and resolution of line build and prototype build issues.
Additionally, the role involves focusing on weight optimization and cost reduction without compromising safety and quality, maintaining strict adherence to industry standards and company protocols. Strong expertise in CATIA V5 R21 for design and drafting is essential to effectively execute these tasks.
Experience
The ideal candidate brings 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in automotive safety system design and integration, specifically in the development of restraint systems. Experience with CAD tools, particularly CATIA V5 R21, is crucial for managing complex design tasks.
You should have hands-on experience collaborating with suppliers and conducting detailed safety analyses such as DFMEA and design reviews. Familiarity with the homologation process, interface management, and the resolution of production and prototype issues within automotive safety systems is highly desirable.
Previous roles should demonstrate your ability to manage projects independently, prepare required documentation for design release, and apply cost and weight reduction strategies effectively. Experience in a multidisciplinary team environment within the automotive sector will be highly valued.
Industry Preferred
Preference is given to candidates with a background in the automotive industry, particularly those experienced in automotive safety systems, restraint technologies, and vehicle structural safety. Experience working within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment will be viewed favourably, especially where involvement in safety system development, testing, and homologation has been substantial.
Additional exposure to cross-functional interfacing with departments such as product development, quality assurance, and manufacturing within the automotive sector will enhance suitability for this role.
Qualifications
A Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with specialised training or certifications in automotive safety systems, CAD design, or product development methodologies will be highly regarded.
Additional qualifications such as DFMEA training, project management certifications, or experience with regulatory standards in vehicle safety will further strengthen a candidate’s profile.
General Requirements
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Effective communication and collaboration abilities are essential, as the role involves coordination with both internal teams and external suppliers.
The position requires a commitment to meeting project timelines and maintaining high-quality standards. A thorough understanding of automotive safety regulations and standards, alongside familiarity with production line and prototype build processes, is necessary.
While no travel is required, candidates should be adaptable to evolving project demands and maintain a commitment to continuous learning and development within the safety systems domain.
