THE ROLE

AMD is seeking a senior system technical leader, provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise to our growing team. As a key contributor, you will have a strong technical background to contribute to all aspects of the innovative system with partners. Based in Shenzhen, this role bridges AMD system design teams with ODM/OEM partners and component suppliers. The core focus is to surfacing external technology trends back to the internal team. A key expectation is to identify and evaluate innovation solutions for next-generation products, keeping AMD ahead on subsystem technologies.

THE PERSON

A system engineer with a solid grasp of PC/laptop subsystems — from motherboard-side controller/PHY to external components to whole-machine integration —  with strong platform-firmware depth in power, thermal, battery, and low-power architecture . You understand the full picture well enough to have confident technical conversations with both AMD internal teams and ODM/OEM engineers. You have a strong sense of where subsystem and firmware technology is heading, and can evaluate new solutions early.

You are highly motivated, a strong communicator, and very good at collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serve as the  primary technical bridge  between AMD internal teams and ODM/OEM partners.
- Support  subsystem solution definition and component selection  (Audio, Display, Sensor, Storage, Memory), ensuring alignment between AMD architecture and ODM/OEM implementation.
- Collaborate with BIOS, System, HW, and ME teams  on platform firmware — define ACPI/EC communication protocols, ensure Windows OS compatibility, and resolve sleep/wake failures, power leakage, thermal abnormalities, and intermittent issues.
- Identify and evaluate innovation solutions  for next-gen products — new interfaces, component technologies, firmware architectures — and present clear recommendations to the AMD internal team.
- Participate in technical design reviews on schematic, layout, BOM, firmware, and integration.
- Support factory trial run and mass production — analyze yield problems and provide firmware optimization and DFX improvements.
- Build and maintain good relationships with ODM/OEM teams and component suppliers.

REQUESTED EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree or above in PC Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years  in laptop/PC system development.
- Good understanding of motherboard-side solutions and external components  — Audio, Display, Sensor, Storage, Memory — and PC/laptop whole-machine integration.
- Familiar with SMBus, I²C, SPI, LPC, and common peripheral communication interfaces.
- Platform firmware (power / thermal / battery / low-power):
- Deep understanding of notebook  power architecture, ACPI specification, and Windows power management / S-state mechanism .
- Familiar with  BIOS-EC interaction logic  and platform validation process.
- Solid experience in fan-speed thermal tuning, battery fuel-gauge calibration, power-sequence debugging, and sleep/wake troubleshooting.

- Independent problem-analysis capability; able to drive ODM and vendor to close technical risks efficiently.
- Good verbal and written English.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

- Hands-on EC firmware development  (AMI, Insyde, or equivalent).
- Experience with major ODM/OEM laptop companies.
- Experience with AMD Ryzen-based laptop platforms.
