- Design collaboration: Partner with Design Engineering, Programs, and customers to influence repairability, manufacturability, and cost early in the lifecycle.
- Change control: Govern technical change (ECR/ECO) and configuration management to ensure safety, regulatory, and customer compliance while maintaining configuration integrity.
4. Technical Excellence and Special Processes
- Standards and methods: Establish and maintain standards, methods, work instructions, and process controls for special processes (e.g., heat treatment, coatings, welding) in line with applicable standards and customer requirements.
- Capability and qualification: Ensure robust process capability, qualification, and re-qualification of critical processes, including measurement systems and inspection methods.
- Problem-solving excellence: Sponsor and enforce disciplined root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues impacting SQDC.
5. Continuous Improvement, Productivity, and Capital
- Productivity delivery: Deliver annual productivity, yield, and scrap-reduction commitments through automation, process capability improvements, and design-to-cost initiatives.
- Technology & capital roadmap: Develop and execute technology and capability roadmaps, including capital investment plans, to support future workload, rates, and strategic programs.
- External partnerships: Build and manage relationships with key equipment suppliers, technology partners, and research institutions to accelerate innovation and industrialisation.
6. Governance, Safety, and Compliance
- Safety leadership: Embed safety-by-design, process safety, and EHS compliance into all technical decisions, particularly for new automation, robotics, and major process changes.
- Technical governance: Establish and lead technical review boards and forums for process approval, risk assessment, and major technology decisions.
- Measurement capability: Ensure robust Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), and audit readiness for regulatory, customer, and internal requirements.
7. Maintenance Integration, Reliability, and Asset Management
- Integrated Maintenance & Engineering: Integrate Maintenance into a combined Maintenance & Engineering organization with clear technical ownership for critical assets and standards.
- Reliability focus: Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), TPM, and disciplined CMMS practices to improve OEE, increase MTBF, reduce MTTR, and minimize unplanned downtime in line with technology and capacity plans.
- Asset lifecycle management: Lead asset strategy, including specification, qualification, lifecycle planning, and decommissioning, ensuring alignment with the technology roadmap and Smart Factory objectives.
8. Organization Effectiveness and Talent
- Org design: Assess current structures, interfaces, and spans and layers across Technology, Engineering, and Maintenance. Design and implement a phased transformation to clarify ownership, decision rights, and operating mechanisms.
- Talent development: Build deep technical and leadership bench strength in automation, robotics, digital manufacturing, industrialisation, and reliability engineering. Promote a culture of learning, standard work, and continuous improvement.
- Change leadership: Lead the cultural and organizational change required to adopt new technologies, digital tools, and new ways of working across the plants.
