About this role
About the role
We are looking for a Junior Analyst to join our Integrated Risk Management team and focus on market and macro research.
Integrated Risk Management (IRM) is Plata’s second line of defense: we own the company’s risk profile end to end (credit, liquidity, FX and strategic risk) and give management independent advice on how to grow without losing control of it. Part of that is seeing what happens in the market before it reaches our portfolio.
You will follow how Mexico’s economy and consumer-lending market are moving, and study how banks and fintechs in Mexico and other markets make money: their business models, unit economics, growth and credit quality. Your work will feed the monthly risk review for senior management and our capital, liquidity and business-plan scenarios.
Previous work experience is optional. We welcome economics graduates who understand how economies, companies and banks work, are curious, and can turn research into clear conclusions.
Challenges that await you:
- Prepare the monthly market overview and the quarterly competitor benchmark for senior management: growth, asset quality and profitability of banks and fintechs, based on regulatory data (e.g., CNBV) and company reports
- Track Mexico’s macroeconomy and household debt (Banxico rates, inflation, FX, employment, consumer credit) and help turn it into inputs for our capital, liquidity and business-plan scenarios
- Run deep dives on banks and fintechs in Mexico, Colombia and other markets at the request of senior management: business model, unit economics, revenue sources, risk profile
- Estimate market sizes and assess how attractive a market or segment is
- Collect, clean and reconcile financial statements and regulatory data: catch restatements, series breaks and stale figures, and explain what changed and why
- Turn findings into concise slides and memos in English
What makes you a great fit:
- Education in economics or finance (macroeconomics, corporate finance, banking or a related field) from a strong university
- Solid understanding of how economies, companies, and banks operate: what drives revenue, costs, and risk
- Ability to read financial statements and work with key metrics such as growth, margins, cost of risk, NPL ratio, and ROE
- Confident Excel skills
- Structured thinking and clear, literate writing: you can build a storyline and a clean slide
- B2 or higher English level: most of our materials are in English
- Independence and self-organization: the team works remotely, so you plan your own work, deliver on time, and ask for help early
- Attention to detail: you check sources, dates, and numbers before drawing conclusions
Your bonus skills:
- Internships or experience in macro, equity or industry research (e.g. a bank’s research department) or a similar analytical role
- Reading knowledge of Spanish: many sources are in Spanish
- SQL or Python, or hands-on use of AI assistants (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for research and analysis
- Up to 2 years of analytical experience
Our ways of working :
- Innovative Spirit: a commitment to creativity and groundbreaking solutions
- Honest Feedback: valuing open, transparent communication
- Supportive Team: a strong, collaborative community
- Celebrating Achievements: recognizing our wins together
- High-Tech Environment: a team full of smart and revolutionary people who dare to challenge the status quo of incumbent finances
Our benefits:
- Relocation support to Georgia with assistance for the employee and their family
- Flexible work from one of our offices or remotely within time zones from GMT-2 to GMT+5
- Healthcare Coverage
- Education Budget: Language lessons, professional training and certifications
- Wellness Budget: Mental health and fitness activity reimbursements
- Vacation Policy: Annual leave and paid sick leave as per applicable policies
