The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our Embedded Systems Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of drone communication and control system modules and related embedded electromechanical assemblies. You will work closely with system architects, electronics engineers, software engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality specialists to design robust, reliable, and producible solutions for demanding environments.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical enclosures, structures, mounting solutions, and assemblies for drone communication and control system modules.
- Develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform mechanical analyses including thermal management, vibration resistance, shock tolerance, and structural integrity assessments.
- Collaborate with electronics, RF, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless hardware integration.
- Design products for manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), serviceability, and cost optimization.
- Support prototype builds, testing activities, and product validation.
- Define and verify environmental and reliability requirements for products operating in demanding conditions.
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve design, production, and quality issues.
- Conduct engineering investigations and root cause analyses related to product failures and reliability concerns.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of mechanical design processes, standards, and best practices.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design of electronic or embedded systems products.
- Strong proficiency with modern 3D CAD tools and drawing management practices.
- Experience designing size constrained products for volume manufacturing and assembly.
- Knowledge of materials, machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, and assembly processes.
- Understanding of environmental qualification requirements, including thermal, vibration, shock, humidity, and ingress protection considerations.
- Experience in reliability engineering and product lifecycle considerations.
- Familiarity with MIL-standard testing and qualification processes.
- Ability to create clear engineering documentation and technical specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills in multidisciplinary engineering environments.
Nice to Have
- Experience with drone, aerospace, defense, robotics, or autonomous systems products.
- Knowledge of electromechanical systems, actuators, sensors, and motion-control mechanisms.
- Understanding of electronics design, PCB design constraints, and electronic packaging.
- Experience with thermal simulation or other engineering analysis tools.
- Familiarity with EMC/EMI-related mechanical design considerations.
- Experience working with ruggedized products designed for harsh environments.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and global supply chains.
- Security-aware product design experience for critical or mission-critical systems.
