We are seeking
We are seeking a Director, AI Datacenter Construction to lead delivery of multiple concurrent AI data center builds across Bitdeer’s U.S. portfolio. Reporting to the President of Global Power Land Infrastructure, you will own construction execution for high-density AI campuses, new builds, and retrofits, from site diligence and design through energization, Level 1–5 commissioning, and turnover to operations, with accountability for safety, schedule, cost, and quality on every site.
You will lead site construction managers and discipline leads, set one delivery playbook across all builds, and manage general contractors, utility partners, and design consultants. The ideal candidate has delivered hundreds of megawatts of critical capacity from the owner’s side at a hyperscaler or AI infrastructure company, has delivered liquid-cooled AI data halls, and can run several sites at once without losing control of cost or schedule.
What you will be responsible for
Multi-Site Construction Leadership
- Portfolio Delivery: Lead construction of multiple concurrent AI data center builds, from site diligence and design through energization, commissioning, and ready-for-service (RFS).
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor site construction managers, project managers, and discipline leads, and help recruit hyperscale-experienced talent as the portfolio grows.
- Delivery Standards: Standardize construction processes, playbooks, and reporting across sites so each build is faster and more predictable than the last.
Pre-Construction, Design & Power
- Design Reviews: Lead multidisciplinary reviews of civil, structural, architectural, electrical, and mechanical design packages to resolve constructability, cost, and schedule issues before they reach the field.
- Power & Interconnection: Coordinate substation interconnection, utility and EPC partners, outage planning, and energization milestones, and resolve easement, land, and permitting constraints.
- Delivery Models: Execute across self-build, build-to-suit, and colocation/third-party delivery models, including tenant fit-outs.
AI & High-Density Infrastructure
- Liquid Cooling: Deliver direct-to-chip liquid cooling and high-density power distribution for GPU/AI workloads.
- Fit-Out Integration: Coordinate base-building construction with network, fiber, and rack deployment teams so data halls are ready for compute on schedule.
- Retrofits & Conversions: Plan and execute retrofits and conversions of existing facilities into AI-ready capacity while protecting live operations.
Cost, Contracts & Procurement
- Budget & EAC: Own site budgets, Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasts, owner’s contingency, and value engineering across the portfolio.
- Change Control: Review and approve contractor change orders and scope changes, requiring clear labor and material splits and Owner-Furnished, Contractor-Installed (OFCI) documentation.
- Contractor & Supply Chain Strategy: Select and manage general contractors, electrical contractors, trade partners, and consultants based on regional labor markets and vendor capacity, and direct procurement of long-lead equipment and structural steel.
Tenant & Stakeholder Management
- Tenant Requirements: Support Site-Specific Owner Project Requirements (SSOPR) negotiations with hyperscale and AI tenants, and set commissioning frameworks that protect schedule and RFS dates.
- Stakeholder Governance: Set clear communication protocols between Bitdeer, tenants, and contractors to reduce silos and speed conflict resolution, and lead site visits for prospective tenants and investors.
- Executive Reporting: Report status, risks, and decision options to the President of GPLI and executive leadership, with clear cost, schedule, and risk trade-offs.
Safety, Quality & Turnover
- Safety Leadership: Enforce a zero-harm safety culture, including OSHA compliance, Method of Procedure (MOP), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and energization safety in live environments.
- Quality & Commissioning: Run QA/QC programs, root cause failure analysis (RCFA), and Level 1–5 commissioning so facilities meet design intent and tenant requirements.
- Turnover & Compliance: Deliver structured closeout and digital asset handover to operations and client CMMS platforms, and oversee incentive and labor compliance (e.g., IRA/ITC, prevailing wage and apprenticeship).
How you will stand out
- Experience: 12+ years in data center, mission-critical, or large-scale construction, including 5+ years leading owner-side hyperscale or AI data center construction.
- Multi-Site Scale: Proven delivery of multiple concurrent builds or multi-building campuses totaling 300MW+ of critical capacity, with capital budgets of $1B+.
- AI & Liquid Cooling: Hands-on delivery of AI/ML-ready, high-density, or liquid-cooled data centers, including direct-to-chip cooling.
- Delivery Models: Experience across self-build, colocation, and third-party data center delivery, including tenant fit-outs.
- Technical Breadth: Working knowledge of civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical systems, MV/HV power distribution, substation interconnection, and Level 1–5 commissioning.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as PE, PMP, OSHA 30/40-Hour, or LEED.
- Industry Background: Construction leadership at a hyperscaler, AI cloud provider, or large data center developer.
- Cost & Commercial Control: Strong command of EAC forecasting, owner’s contingency, change-order control, value engineering, and OFCI procurement.
- Process Standardization: Track record of building standard construction processes and playbooks across multiple regions or programs.
- Public-Sector & Permitting: Experience working with jurisdictions, inspectors, and building codes; military or public-sector engineering experience is a plus.
- Hands-On Leadership: Leads from the field, develops construction managers, and builds disciplined, accountable teams.
- Commercial Negotiation: Holds firm in tenant and contractor negotiations while keeping relationships productive.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Aligns engineering, operations, finance, tenants, utilities, and local authorities around one plan.
- Safety & Quality Mindset: Holds the line on safety and quality while delivering at speed.
What you will experience working with us
- A culture that values authenticity and diverse perspectives.
- An inclusive, respectful environment with open workspaces and an energetic, start-up spirit.
- A fast-growing company with opportunities to network with industry pioneers and enthusiasts.
- The ability to contribute directly and make an impact on the future of the digital asset and AI computing industry.
- Involvement in new projects and in developing processes/systems.
- Personal accountability, autonomy, rapid growth, and learning opportunities.
- Attractive benefits and development such as training and mentoring.
