SUMMARY

Finalsite's storefront platform is the system districts use to collect fees, run online stores, and manage school payments at scale. It's one of the company's largest products, and it's mid-modernization on a VM-based .NET stack, with real production-scale strain, including performance bottlenecks and logging and observability gaps, that the team is actively working through. The team has strong technical talent but has lacked a dedicated people leader to turn that talent into consistent delivery.

This is a foundational people-leadership hire: you'll build and lead the team that carries the modernization forward and scales the platform for significantly more payments traffic, working alongside its strongest technical owners rather than around them. Based in LatAm to keep close overlap with the US-based team.

LOCATION

100% Remote - Anywhere within LatAm

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead and grow the storefront engineering team, hiring and developing engineers as it scales
- Own the team's delivery: sequence modernization work alongside the platform's scaling roadmap
- Partner closely with the team's senior technical owners on architecture and solution decisions
- Drive resolution of the platform's current production-scale and reliability issues as part of the modernization effort
- Scale the platform to reliably support significantly more payments traffic
- Bring process and decisiveness to a team that has had strong ICs but lacked consistent leadership
- Hold regular 1:1s, give direct feedback, and build the team's day-to-day operating rhythm
- Use AI-assisted development tools as part of how the team carries the modernization forward

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

- 10+ years of overall experience (8+ years hands-on technical, 1+ years as a people manager with 3+ direct reports); prior experience as an Engineering Manager, not someone stepping into people management for the first time, on a production, revenue-critical platform
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- A track record of turning strong individual contributors into a functioning, decisive team
- Comfort managing a remote team operating primarily within US business hours
- Experience modernizing a VM-based .NET system toward a cloud-native architecture
- Experience scaling a production system to handle significantly higher transaction or traffic volume
- Strong technical credibility: you can read the codebase directly, reason about backend architecture and system design trade-offs, and make or validate technical calls, not just review status
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals with a .NET / SQL Server-based stack, or a demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in one
- Working knowledge of relational database design and operations (SQL Server): schema design, query-performance tuning, and locking behavior at production scale
- Familiarity with running and debugging a production service in a cloud environment (Azure preferred)
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one programming language, ideally .NET, Java, or Python
- Experience with at least one observability platform (Datadog, New Relic, Honeycomb, or comparable)
- Deep experience with automated testing frameworks
- Proficiency with Claude Code, Codex, or comparable AI-assisted development tools

PREFERRED

- Experience with .NET or Java specifically
- Deep experience with Azure
- Hands-on PCI compliance experience: familiarity with PCI-DSS requirements as they apply to the storefront's payments workflows
- Experience in payments or fintech specifically, particularly platforms handling high transaction volume
- Prior experience on a modernization, scaling, or migration effort for a legacy .NET system

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

Finalsite offers 100% fully remote employment opportunities, however, these opportunities are limited to permanent residents of the United States. Current residency, as well as continued residency, within the United States is required to obtain (and retain) employment with Finalsite.
