About this role

Commercial Computing Strategy

Description -

Overview

What should the next generation of commercial PCs look like?

How will AI change the way people work? Which processor, connectivity, display, security, and platform technologies will create meaningful differentiation? Where should HP invest and where should we choose not to?

The Portfolio Strategy & Planning team helps answer these questions and turns them into action.

We shape the future of HP's Commercial PC portfolio by connecting technology, customer needs, market dynamics, competitive intelligence, and business economics. We work across Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, and leading technology partners to influence multi-year product roadmaps and strategic investments.

This role is an opportunity to operate at the intersection of technology and business strategy; identifying what is coming next, determining what matters, and helping HP turn those insights into winning products and businesses.

What You'll Do

- Shape the future portfolio :  develop strategies and recommendations that influence HP's multi-year Commercial PC portfolio, product roadmaps, and platform direction.
- Identify the next big technology shifts: assess emerging technologies across AI, processors, connectivity, security, displays, platforms, and new computing architectures—and determine where they can create meaningful customer and business value.
- Turn technology into strategy: translate complex technology roadmaps and industry developments into clear business implications, investment choices, and product opportunities.
- Solve high-impact strategic questions:  tackle questions such as where HP should invest, how the portfolio should evolve, how to respond to competitive moves, and which new markets or use cases to pursue.
- Build the business case: develop scenario analyses, financial models, market assessments, and investment cases that help senior leaders make high-conviction decisions.
- Influence without authority : bring together Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and external partners to align stakeholders around strategic choices and drive action.
- Shape the ecosystem: work directly with technology leaders across the semiconductor, software, display, connectivity, and broader computing ecosystem to understand roadmaps, influence priorities, and identify opportunities for partnership.
- Challenge conventional thinking: use competitive intelligence, customer insights, market trends, and data to identify opportunities, risks, and assumptions that should be reconsidered.
- Drive long-range planning: translate strategic choices into portfolio roadmaps, investment priorities, and executable plans.
- Influence senior leadership: distill complex analysis into compelling, executive-ready recommendations for senior leadership and strategic reviews.

What Makes This Role Different

This is not a traditional planning or reporting role. You will be given ambiguous, high-impact questions with no predefined answer and expected to develop the point of view.

You will have the opportunity to:

- Influence products and technologies that reach millions of customers.
- Work at the intersection of AI, semiconductors, software, hardware, and business strategy.
- Engage directly with senior HP leaders and technology partners.
- Move from "What is happening?" → "What does it mean?" → "What should HP do?"
- See your recommendations translate into real product roadmaps, technology investments, and portfolio decisions.
- Build a perspective on where computing is heading and help HP get there.

What We're Looking For

- 8+ years of experience in technology strategy, product strategy, product management, management consulting, corporate strategy, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of computing platforms, PC technologies, semiconductors, software ecosystems, and emerging technology trends.
- Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous problems, structure them analytically, and develop clear strategic recommendations.
- Experience building business cases, financial models, scenario analyses, and investment recommendations.
- Ability to operate effectively across highly cross-functional organizations and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Strong executive communication skills—the ability to turn complex technology and market dynamics into a compelling point of view.
- Curiosity about emerging technologies and the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar technical domains.
- Experience in PC, semiconductor, cloud, AI, enterprise technology, consumer technology, or adjacent industries preferred.

The Ideal Candidate

- You are someone who can move comfortably between a technology roadmap, a customer problem, a spreadsheet, and an executive conversation.
- You don't simply analyze what happened and you ask what happens next, why it matters, and what we should do about it.
- You bring intellectual curiosity, analytical rigor, and the ability to turn ideas into action.

The pay range for this role is $130,700 to $205,200 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
