Electrical Field Engineer

Join the Green Infrastructure Partners team, where quality, collaboration, and exceptional service are at the core of everything we do. As one of Canada’s leading construction and infrastructure companies, we support a wide range of complex projects across the country, including heavy civil, industrial, infrastructure, and major project work.

At Green Infrastructure Partners, our teams deliver complex projects and create opportunities for our people to grow. We are seeking motivated candidates to support electrical construction activities across our industrial and infrastructure projects. New graduates and experienced field professionals are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do

Coordinate electrical construction activities from a St. John’s base, reporting to the assigned Project Manager and coordinating daily field priorities with the Site Superintendent.

Responsibilities and authority reflect experience, qualifications, and project needs: graduates receive guidance; experienced candidates may own assigned electrical work packages, subcontractor coordination, progress reporting, and cost tracking Responsibilities will include:

- Coordinate assigned electrical work, including power distribution, transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, cable tray and conduit systems, power and control cabling, grounding and bonding, lighting, and associated electrical systems, in accordance with project requirements and delegated authority.
- Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts, specifications, and vendor documentation; identify discrepancies, installation constraints, and constructability issues and coordinate requests for information (RFIs) with the project team and responsible designers.
- Prepare and update assigned work plans, installation sequences, electrical work packages, and look-ahead schedules with site supervision; identify constraints, monitor progress, and flag potential delays.
- Coordinate electrical subcontractors, suppliers, equipment vendors, testing agencies, and specialist service providers to align field activities and resolve issues. Direct supervision of personnel applies only where specifically assigned.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and controls teams, including equipment foundations, duct banks, underground services, penetrations, cable routes, equipment access, and installation sequencing.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and material requirements; coordinate assigned procurement activities, technical submittals, delivery tracking, and the availability of electrical equipment, cables, raceways, components, and installation materials.
- Coordinate receiving inspections, storage, preservation, and handling requirements for electrical equipment and materials in accordance with approved project requirements and manufacturer instructions.
- Track installed quantities, labour and equipment usage, productivity, and progress; maintain daily reports and field records and contribute to resource forecasts and project cost reporting.
- Support progress claims, subcontractor payment reviews, and change tracking; document extra work and potential cost or schedule impacts for review by project management.
- Coordinate assigned inspections and testing, including raceway and cable installation checks, grounding and bonding verification, cable identification and termination checks, insulation resistance testing, and equipment acceptance testing, as applicable. Ensure testing is performed by appropriately qualified and authorized personnel; maintain inspection and test records and track deficiencies and corrective actions.
- Carry out assigned field measurements and installation checks to verify equipment locations, cable routes, clearances, and construction against approved drawings, specifications, and vendor requirements.
- Support electrical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities under approved procedures and the direction of designated leads; coordinate system walkdowns, deficiency lists, test documentation, and turnover readiness.
- Coordinate assigned documentation and readiness reviews for outages, tie-ins, and energization with site supervision, commissioning personnel, and the client’s designated representatives. Switching, isolation, testing, and energization activities are performed only by appropriately qualified and authorized personnel.
- Follow company, client, and site-specific health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) requirements; participate in planning and inspections, promptly report and escalate hazards and nonconformances, and follow up on assigned actions. Coordinate assigned work within applicable permit, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and energy-control procedures.
- Maintain current drawings, RFIs, submittals, photographs, and project records; track meeting actions and coordinate assigned redline drawings, as-built documentation, cable and equipment records, turnover packages, and closeout records.
- Communicate field priorities and outstanding issues clearly, and build professional working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, Indigenous partners, and other stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and support to students and junior personnel where assigned, appropriate to experience and under the direction of project management and site supervision.

What We’re Looking For

We’re excited to meet candidates who have:

- A degree or diploma in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and practical electrical construction experience.
- 0–10 years of relevant experience in electrical construction, industrial construction, field engineering, project coordination, or a related role. New graduates are welcome; co-op and work-term experience is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, specifications, and vendor documentation, appropriate to your experience level.
- Knowledge of electrical construction methods, power distribution, raceway and cable installation, grounding and bonding, material quantities, scheduling, inspection and testing, and quality requirements appropriate to your experience level.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code, applicable provincial requirements, electrical safety standards, and project specifications, with the ability to identify when clarification or specialist input is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Experience with AutoCAD, 3D model review tools, scheduling, estimating, or project management software is an asset.
- Experience with instrumentation and controls interfaces, electrical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, or system turnover is an asset.
- A strong commitment to HSEQ, with the ability to learn and follow company, client, and site-specific procedures, recognize electrical hazards, and exercise sound judgment when escalating issues.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and sound judgment; clear communication, effective teamwork, and the ability to organize priorities, adapt to changing conditions, and follow actions through to completion.
- A valid driver’s licence and the ability to meet project, client, and remote-site access requirements.

Travel & Working Conditions

- Must be willing and able to travel to project sites and work away from St. John’s for extended periods, including assignments in remote locations and camp-based environments.
