About this role

Job Title: Staff Accountant Job Description This Staff Accountant role offers an excellent opportunity in accounting within a collaborative and supportive team. You will gain hands-on experience in journal entries, account reconciliations, and cash reconciliation activities, while contributing directly to the month-end close process for multiple legal entities. The position is ideal for someone eager to learn, who understands fundamental accounting concepts, and who can grow into working independently in a hybrid environment. Responsibilities

- Prepare and enter ad hoc journal entries during the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare journal entries for payroll, amortization, depreciation, allocations, nontrade accruals, line-of-credit activity, banking transactions, and other areas as needed.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts for one to two legal entities using Blackline, ensuring accuracy and completeness in line with established timelines.
- Reconcile cash accounts, including ATM, loose cash, and other cash accounts, to ensure accurate daily and monthly cash positions.
- Manage cash reconciliation activities, including coordinating with armored service providers and yard personnel throughout the month to support proper daily reconciliation at the facility level.
- Ensure accounting periods close with no material errors by performing thorough account reconciliations and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Review and analyze outstanding check lists to identify outdated or stale checks, and follow up to clear them by contacting vendors, suppliers, and individuals to verify accuracy and resolve issues.
- Support department and organizational special projects as assigned, including developing a strong understanding of the month-end inventory closing process.
- Collaborate with other staff accountants and team members to improve processes, share knowledge, and support overall department goals.
- Demonstrate initiative and ownership over assigned tasks, progressing toward independent work in a hybrid (onsite and remote) environment.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or economics.
- Experience with intercompany accounting
- Strong understanding of fundamental accounting concepts, including the difference between debits and credits, with the ability to apply this knowledge confidently and accurately.
- Ability to prepare and record journal entries for various types of transactions, including payroll, amortization, depreciation, allocations, nontrade accruals, and banking activities.
- Experience or aptitude in performing account reconciliations, particularly for balance sheet and cash accounts.
- High attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing financial data and resolving discrepancies.
- Self-motivated, eager-to-learn attitude with the ability to manage workload and time effectively.
- Capability to work with some independence and transition to a partially remote schedule after training.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with internal stakeholders and external parties such as vendors and suppliers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Hyperion software experience is a plus
- Willingness to learn the month-end inventory closing process and support related projects.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team of staff accountants under the guidance of a financial accounting manager.
- Proactive, go-getter mindset, with a desire to take initiative rather than adopt a passive approach.

Work Environment You will join a financial accounting team that includes multiple staff accountants and a manager of financial accounting, providing a strong peer group and mentorship environment for early-career professionals. The team collaborates closely during the month-end close and reconciliation processes, fostering a supportive culture where junior accountants can learn and develop. The role begins with an in-office training period during which you will work closely with senior staff and leadership to learn systems, processes, and expectations. After the initial training period, the position transitions to a hybrid schedule, typically involving one to two days per week in the office with the remaining days worked remotely. The work involves regular use of accounting systems and reconciliation tools, including Blackline, as well as standard office technology. The environment emphasizes accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning, while also offering flexibility in scheduling and a stable workload with clear expectations.
