# Job Description Summary
GE Vernova is seeking a skilled Back Office Support Engineer to provide remote technical, engineering, and operational support for field commissioning, testing, and startup activities of high-voltage electrical equipment and protection systems. This role ensures seamless coordination between site teams, engineering, project management, and customers — supporting complex technical troubleshooting, relay setting validation, documentation review, and resolution of site issues to ensure critical power infrastructure projects meet rigorous safety, quality, schedule, and cost requirements.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

- Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting assistance to field commissioning and testing engineers on active sites globally.
- Review, validate, and manage protection relay settings, configuration files, logic diagrams, and coordination studies.
- Analyze complex technical problems, misoperations, and event records (fault logs, oscillography/COMTRADE files) to perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Coordinate with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) teams, design engineering, and vendors to resolve technical queries (TQs) and non-conformances.
- Support the review of technical drawings, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), schematics, wiring diagrams, and commissioning procedures.
- Manage and track technical documentation, punch lists, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and site instructions.
- Assist in preparing commissioning test documentation, final test reports, and customer handover packages.
- Coordinate with project management, customers, and regional teams to track commissioning readiness, equipment status, and resource scheduling.
- Maintain technical repositories, standard templates, and best practices for back-office commissioning support.

Safety & Quality

Safety and quality leadership are core expectations of this role, ensuring that all remote engineering decisions, designs, and procedures uphold:

- GE Vernova safety and quality procedures
- NETA / NERC / IEC standards
- Industry compliance and regulatory requirements

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to maintain high quality and accuracy standards even under significant project schedule pressure.

Leadership Expectations

Beyond technical execution, this role requires:

- Mentoring junior back-office engineers and supporting field personnel with technical guidance.
- Coordinating across multidisciplinary remote engineering and project teams.
- Communicating effectively with site managers, customers, and engineering stakeholders.
- Making sound, rapid technical decisions during critical site testing and energization windows.
- Managing competing priorities across multiple simultaneous global projects.
- Driving continuous improvement in back-office support processes, tools, and workflows.

Project Management Component

This role supports project execution responsibility across the full project lifecycle, with a focus on remote coordination and engineering inputs:

Planning → Engineering Review → FAT Support → Pre-Commissioning Support → Commissioning Support → Energization Support → Project Closeout

Responsibilities include control and oversight over:

- Technical documentation turnaround times and quality
- Relay setting and configuration management workflows
- Tracking and resolution of site technical issues and NCRs
- Supporting schedule alignment between site execution and engineering deliverables

Required Qualifications

- High School Diploma / GED
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical power systems, with specific experience in protection and control engineering, testing, or back-office technical support.

Desired Characteristics

- Protection & Control Engineering | Numerical Relays (SEL, GE, Siemens) | IEC 61850 / GOOSE | SCADA / Substation Automation | COMTRADE / Fault Analysis | Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) | Technical Writing & Documentation | HV Substations | HVDC | Auxiliary DC Systems
- Hands-on familiarity with numerical relay configuration software (e.g., SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista/UR Setup, Siemens DIGSI) and COMTRADE analysis tools.
- Strong background in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection coordination studies.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues remotely and communicate solutions clearly.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience with engineering project management tools.
- Fluency in English required; additional languages are an asset depending on the supported region.
