Be a part of the System Firmware and Diagnostics (SFD) team!

The System Firmware and Diagnostics team is looking for an enthusiastic Software Engineer Intern to join our team. You will have the opportunity to work on core engineering platforms and AI-powered diagnostic systems that make a major impact on how Apple develops, tests, debugs, and manufactures its next-generation hardware products (including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Home accessories). Our environment encourages technical innovation, rapid iteration, cross-functional collaboration, and a liberating amount of autonomy.

In this role, you will build both cloud-native full-stack platforms for real-time hardware lab orchestration and autonomous Large Language Model (LLM) agent ecosystems that automate root-cause analysis across massive hardware and firmware telemetry datasets.

This role involves designing, developing, and scaling full-stack web applications, distributed data pipelines, and multi-agent AI workflows that empower hardware and firmware engineers worldwide. You will collaborate closely with System Firmware, Diagnostics, Hardware Validation, and Factory Engineering teams to turn complex hardware debugging workflows into seamless, intelligent software products.

Minimum Qualifications

Student of BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science and AIML or equivalent.
Available for an onsite internship in Shanghai for 6-12 months.
Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications, AI Agents, or tool-use workflows using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph or similar agentic architectures.
Strong programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, with a solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Hands-on experience with either backend web frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask, Django, Node.js) or modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embedding models, vector databases (e.g., pgvector, ChromaDB, Milvus), or graph databases (e.g., Neo4j).
Experience with full-stack web development using Python and React.
Exposure to embedded systems, firmware debugging, hardware diagnostics, or system-level log analysis is a strong plus.
Self-motivated problem solver with a strong ownership mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment.
