Reporting to the Principal, the Senior Data Analyst will undertake complex data analysis and contribute to the development, validation and enhancement of analytical models, data products and business intelligence solutions used to identify and assess AML/ATF risks, trends and emerging issues.

The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on technical and analytical capability, sound judgement and the ability to work independently on complex analytical assignments. The role requires the ability to translate regulatory and supervisory requirements into effective analytical outputs and communicate technical findings clearly to relevant stakeholders.

This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Developing, documenting, testing and maintaining data models, analytical frameworks, risk-scoring methodologies, calculation rules and decision trees supporting sectoral and entity-level AML/ATF risk assessments and supervisory analysis
• Acquiring, transforming, reconciling, validating and analysing large, complex and multi-source datasets to identify trends, concentrations, anomalies, outliers, data gaps and emerging risks, while clearly documenting analytical insights
• Undertaking model validation and enhancement activities, including scenario and sensitivity testing, quality assurance, recalibration and methodology refinement, and document relevant assumptions, limitations, controls and outcomes
• Developing business intelligence and reporting solutions, including dashboards, KPI scorecards, automated reports and analytical tools that translate complex regulatory and supervisory data into clear and accessible information
• Providing analytical and technical input into regulatory returns, annual returns, surveys, questionnaires and ad-hoc data calls, with a focus on data completeness, quality, consistency, usability and analytical value
• Performing data validation and quality assurance activities, including applying validation rules, reviewing exceptions, reconciling information and identifying incomplete, inconsistent or potentially erroneous data for follow-up
• Translating defined supervisory, policy and operational requirements into analytical and technical requirements, including data specifications, calculation logic and functional requirements, and working with relevant business and technology stakeholders as required
• Preparing analytical reports, briefing notes, presentations and other analytical outputs for technical and non-technical audiences, clearly explaining methodologies, findings, limitations and relevant observations
• Conducting in-depth analysis of AML/ATF-regulated financial institutions and sectors, including trend, comparative, thematic and risk-based analysis to support supervisory and regulatory activities
• Applying established analytical methodologies and controls and contribute to their ongoing refinement based on testing, data analysis and identified issues
• Identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of analytical processes, including opportunities for automation, enhanced data visualisation and the appropriate application of advanced analytical techniques
• Researching relevant developments in AML/ATF, financial crime, data analytics, regulatory technology and supervisory technology and contributing technical analysis on their potential relevance to the Authority’s work
• Responding to data and analytical requests, maintaining relevant technical documentation and procedures and undertaking analytical projects and other duties assigned by management
• Monitoring relevant regulatory, financial-crime, data analytics and supervisory-technology developments, while identifying and implementing opportunities for automation, predictive analytics, process optimisation and responsible use of emerging technologies
• Undertaking ad hoc analytical assignments, projects and other related duties as required, supporting emerging departmental priorities and regulatory or supervisory needs

This position requires a proven technical and business background. Therefore, the post-holder must have:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution; a relevant postgraduate or professional qualification is an asset
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in data analytics, modelling or BI development, including demonstrated experience independently delivering complex analytical or BI solutions. Experience in financial services, regulation, risk, compliance or AML/ATF is strongly preferred
• Proven track record of taking analytics solutions from business problems through data preparation, modelling, validation, deployment, documentation and user adoption, with tangible evidence of improving decisions, controls or operational outcomes
• Demonstrated experience working with large, complex and multi-source datasets, including identifying and resolving data quality issues, reconciling information across sources and analysing incomplete or inconsistent data
• Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguous requirements, imperfect data and competing priorities, while producing accurate and reliable outputs within established deadlines and with limited supervision
• Experience working with confidential, sensitive or regulatory data, with an understanding of appropriate data handling, governance, security and confidentiality requirements
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, with experience in data extraction, transformation and querying, and practical understanding of data quality, validation, reconciliation and data governance principles
• Strong working knowledge of Power BI or comparable BI tools, including developing data models, dashboards, KPI scorecards, data visualisations and reports
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis, reporting and modelling
• Working knowledge of Azure, Microsoft 365, Dataverse or comparable cloud and data platforms. Practical knowledge of statistical analysis is required; exposure to Python or R, automation, APIs, version control or machine learning concepts would be an advantage
• Strong analytical judgement and problem-solving ability, including the capacity to infer meaningful conclusions from incomplete or inconsistent data, challenge assumptions and explain risk implications
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate complex analytical concepts and findings clearly to supervisors, policy specialists, technology professionals, senior stakeholders and non-technical users
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple analytical assignments and changing priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and consistently deliver high-quality outputs within established timelines
• High standards of accuracy, integrity, confidentiality and attention to detail, with a demonstrated commitment to maintaining reliable data, analytical outputs and supporting documentation
