Summary

We are seeking a high-caliber Mechatronics Engineer to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for complex Semiconductor Capital Equipmen t and industrial automation. Acting as a technical bridge between our customers and our global engineering teams, you will serve as a consultant, using your mechatronics experience to translate complex client requirements into scalable, high-performance mechatronic solutions during the initial sales engagement. The ideal candidate is a strategic problem-solver who is equally comfortable providing high-level system architecture input as they are performing rigorous engineering calculations to confirm viable solutions. Once the solution and work scope are approved by the customer, the solution transfers to other engineering teams for detailed design.

The engineer regularly works with cross functional teams of other engineers, customers, supply chain and project leadership to ensure the concepts lead to robust and high-quality product development.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

- System Architecture & Trade-off Analysis: Analyze complex system trade-offs (e.g., latency vs. torque, cost vs. precision) to recommend optimized architectural solutions and deployment strategies.

- Requirements & Scope Definition: Partner with global customers to interpret technical specifications and develop the Engineering Scope of Work (SOW).

- Advanced Calculation & Simulation: Perform engineering calculations and simulations (kinematics, thermal, or structural) to validate concept viability.

- Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Ensure that concepts comply with internal procedures, client standards, and international regulations (SEMI, UL, CE, ISO).

- Supply Chain & Vendor Innovation: Initiate relationships with new vendors and technology partners to source cutting-edge mechatronic components.

- VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering): Lead and/or participate in cross-functional cost-reduction exercises (VAVE) to optimize existing designs without sacrificing system reliability.

- Design Reviews: Participate in technical design reviews with management, cross-functional engineering teams, and customers.

- Technical Sales Support: Partner with the business development team to provide technical validation and feasibility assessments during the sales phase.

- Requirements Translation: Lead "Discovery" sessions with clients to extract functional requirements and translate them into technical specifications for the design team.

- On-Site Consulting & Deployment: Travel to customer sites as needed to lead design reviews, oversee complex system deployments, participate in VAVE workshops, or troubleshoot critical performance issues.

- Executive Presentation: Distill complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders (including C-suite executives).

- Expectation Management: Act as the primary technical point of contact to manage design changes, scope creep, and technical alignment during the sales phase.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

- Expertise in Capital Equipment Design: Proven ability to design industrial robotics, automation systems, power transmissions, and electromechanical subassemblies.

- Manufacturing Fluency: Deep knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, welded frames, and piping/routing, including selection of materials and secondary finishes.

- CAD Mastery: Expert-level use of SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Siemens NX. Proficiency in 2D production prints and GD&T.

- System Architecture: Ability to define and provide input on high-level system architecture for complex mechatronic environments.

- Automation & Programming: Hands-on experience with PLC programming, control logic, and embedded systems (microcontrollers).

- Electrical Integration: Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, including sensor/actuator integration and power distribution.

- Standardization: Familiarity with international regulatory standards, including SEMI, UL, CE, and ISO.

- Systems Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving complex, multi-disciplinary engineering failures.

- Consulting: The ideal candidate has a consultative mindset, possesses technical diplomacy, and understands the importance of the voice of the customer.

Preferred Behavioral Attributes:

- Strategic Communication: Ability to navigate complex conversations with global customers, balancing technical constraints with business objectives.

- Technical Diplomacy: Adept at managing stakeholder expectations and driving consensus across multidisciplinary teams.

- Consultative Mindset: A proactive approach to identifying customer "pain points" and proposing innovative mechatronic solutions.

Typical Experience

- Six to ten years of relevant experience in mechatronics and machine design.

- Hands on experience with hardware integration and testing of mechatronic components.

- Fabrication experience in assembly, sheet metal production, welding, or CNC machining is a plus.

- Semiconductor capital equipment experience is a plus.

Typical Education

- Bachelor degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Educational Requirements may vary by Geography

Physical Demands

- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.

- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

- Occasional work in a laboratory or manufacturing floor environment for hardware testing and prototype validation.

- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

- 10%-25% domestic and international travel may be required.
