About this role

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

What you will do

The Commercial Solutions Engineer is the primary commercial decision-maker for complex and nonstandard customer solution requests. The role owns the end-to-end commercial customer adaptation quotation process, from initial opportunity assessment through solution strategy, pricing, approval, quotation delivery, implementation handoff, and outcome review.

Operating at the intersection of Sales, Product Management, Engineering, and Operations, the Commercial Solutions Engineer will develop a deep understanding of Volvo truck configurations and offering and exercise independent reasoning and delegated decision authority to determine whether, how, and under what commercial conditions Volvo should fulfill a technical customer request.

The role balances customer value, technical and operational complexity, profitability, product portfolio strategy, and long-term business impact. The Commercial Solutions Engineer is expected to resolve matters within established authority levels, engage cross-functional stakeholders when their expertise or approval is required, and escalate only those decisions that exceed defined financial, technical, legal, or policy thresholds.

The position is accountable not only for individual commercial decisions, but also for strengthening the decision frameworks, processes, and product strategies used to address future customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Commercial Customer Adaptation (CA) Process Ownership

• Coordinate the complete process flow across Sales, Pricing, Engineering, Product Management, Strategy, and other stakeholders.

Product and Technical Knowledge
• Develop and maintain strong knowledge of Volvo Trucks products, specifications, features, options, and applications to support accurate vehicle configuration and customer solutions.
• Translate complex technical requirements into commercially sound recommendations, serving as a trusted product resource for sales, dealers, customers, and cross-functional partners.

Commercial Judgment and Decision Authority
• Exercise independent reasoning and delegated authority to approve, conditionally approve, decline, or escalate customer solution requests.
• Evaluate whether customer value and expected financial return justify engineering effort, operational complexity, timing, risk, and long-term support requirements.

Portfolio and Offering Strategy
• Determine when customer needs should be addressed through existing portfolio offerings and when custom development may be commercially justified.
• Translate quotation activity into actionable recommendations regarding which offerings Volvo should standardize, expand, modify, partner to provide, or discontinue.

Strategic Market and Customer Analysis
• Synthesize market developments, customer behavior, competitive activity, and technology trends into implications for CA and commercial strategy and product direction.
• Identify future customer requirements and recommend proactive CA portfolio, pricing, or process responses.

Executive Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead strategic technical and commercial CA discussions with major customers, dealers, sales leadership, and internal executives.
• Present complex CA recommendations in clear business terms, including customer value, financial impact, strategic fit, risks, alternatives, and implementation requirements.
