Build the next generation of AI-powered solutions

Agentic AI is changing how organisations operate.
At Equinor, we're building intelligent systems that bring together language models, enterprise knowledge, data and business processes to help people work smarter and make better decisions.

We're looking for a Data Scientist who wants to work at the forefront of generative and agentic AI, delivering real solutions to real users.

Why join us?

This is not a research-only role and it is not a software engineering role.
You'll sit at the intersection of data science, AI engineering and product development, helping develop AI solutions that are deployed and used across the company.

You'll have the freedom to experiment, learn and apply new techniques as the field continues to evolve.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

- Design, develop and test agentic AI solutions.
- Develop prompting strategies, retrieval systems and evaluation approaches.
- Work with large language models and multimodel AI technologies.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, architects and business experts.
- Contribute to production deployment of AI solutions.
- Measure and improve solution performance, quality and user adoption.
- Help identify new opportunities where AI can create business value.

Here's what we expect from you:

At Equinor, there are some overall qualities we regard as essential. We want you to identify with the values that guide our decisions and help us succeed and grow: open, collaborative, courageous and caring. We expect you to make safety your priority and to contribute to our zero-harm culture. And for this specific position, we are also looking for:

What we think you bring

- Masters or PhD in operations research, applied mathematics, computer science, data science, control/automation, engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven hands-on experience in data science, machine learning and AI development/deployment in production environment.
- Practical knowledge of modern language models, generative and Agentic AI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Programming experience, preferably Python.
- Interest in emerging AI technologies and a desire to keep learning.

Nice to have

- LangGraph, Microsoft Agent Framework (MAF), CrewAI or similar frameworks.
- Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI services and cloud-native development.
- Responsible AI, model safety and governance.

#

This role will give you:

- Opportunities to work with some of the most challenging AI use cases in industry.
- Access to large-scale enterprise and industrial data and access to modern AI platforms and technologies.
- Strong technical communities and collaboration with experts across multiple disciplines.
- A culture that values experimentation, learning and innovation.
- The opportunity to shape how AI is applied within a company that plays an important role in European energy security and in the energy transition.
