Scope

We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Java Software Engineer to join our multi-disciplined Connected Solutions R&D team . In this role, you will play a central part in building the next generation of Thermo King’s telematics, remote monitoring, and cold-chain digital platforms across the EMEA region.

As global supply chains face unprecedented environmental and efficiency demands, our team is driving bold innovations that minimize food waste, optimize fuel consumption, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. You will collaborate with specialists across Data Engineering, Data Science, Firmware/IoT, DevOps, UX, and Product Cybersecurity to design, scale, and maintain resilient microservices powering millions of connected assets and global transport units in real time.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)

·         Architecture & Scalable System Design: Partner with Product Management, Technical Architects, and engineering peers to architect secure, stateless, and high-performance multi-tenant microservices and RESTful APIs capable of processing massive telematics streams.

·         Core Backend Development: Deliver robust, maintainable, and production-grade code utilizing modern Java and Spring Boot, adhering to industry-leading design principles, code reuse patterns, and domain boundaries.

·         Resilience & Quality Engineering: Establish automated testing standards (unit, integration, and performance benchmarking) and diagnose complex issues across distributed, asynchronous workflows.

·         CI/CD & DevOps Automation: Collaborate closely with DevOps to build and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and cloud deployment lifecycles.

·         Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Champion engineering excellence through constructive code reviews, architectural discussions, knowledge sharing, and active mentoring of junior and mid-level software engineers.

·         Agile Collaboration: Drive features from concept to production within a fast-paced Agile Scrum framework, collaborating cross-functionally across firmware, cloud services, and user interfaces.

What You Bring (Required Qualifications)

- Java & Enterprise Ecosystem: 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with Java (Java 17/21+) and the core Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data).
- Distributed Architecture & APIs: Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and documenting RESTful APIs and stateless microservice architectures.
- Data Persistence & Relational Databases: Strong expertise in relational database modeling, complex SQL querying, indexing, and query optimization (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle).
- Testing & Quality Mindset: Proven background in test-driven practices, automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Test containers), and robust error-handling design.
- DevOps & Tooling: Proficient with Git, standard build tools (Maven or Gradle), containerization concepts (Docker), and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Operating Systems: Comfortable navigating and troubleshooting across both Linux/UNIX and Windows development and server environments.
- Agile Mindset & Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with proven autonomy in cross-functional Agile Scrum teams.

Desirable

- Cloud-Native Platforms: Practical experience building and deploying cloud infrastructure on AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, RDS) or Azure. High-Throughput Streaming & Messaging: Familiarity with message brokers or event streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, MQTT) and IoT/telematics data pipelines. Multi-Tenant SaaS: Experience building multi-tenant data isolation and role-based access control (RBAC) models for enterprise SaaS. Front-End Familiarity: Working understanding of modern front-end technologies (e.g., React, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3) for seamless full-stack feature collaboration. Observability & Scripting: Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry, Datadog) and automation via Bash/Shell scripting.

- Development - taking designs and making them happen. Development and testing using strict development methodologies including code reuse, maintainability, testing and documentation.
- Building high volume platforms - linking millions of users worldwide at the same time.
- Quality Assurance - developing test cases in line with best practice methodology.
- Project Environment - Working in a cross-functional agile team to develop features with collaboration across software stacks.
