About this role

Trade Specialist | U.S. Customs & Client Care

Take your customs expertise beyond the entry.

At GHY, we don’t just move goods across borders. We help businesses navigate complexity, solve problems, and trade with confidence.

For more than a century, we’ve helped importers and exporters navigate global trade. As a Best-Managed Employer and family-led organization, we’ve built our reputation on expertise, integrity, innovation, and genuinely caring about our clients and one another.

If you know customs, enjoy solving problems, and are ready to take greater ownership of the client experience, this could be your next move.

About the Role:

As a Trade Specialist , you’ll go beyond processing customs entries to help ensure our clients receive accurate, consistent, and knowledgeable support.

Reporting to the Client Care Manager, you’ll oversee day-to-day client needs, audit released shipments, maintain client databases and work instructions, and help resolve issues as they arise. You’ll also share your experience with colleagues and support the release team when additional expertise is needed.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced customs professional who is ready to take more ownership, deepen their technical knowledge, and become a trusted resource for both clients and teammates.

What You'll Do:

- 🤝 Own the client experience. Support day-to-day client needs, answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and help find solutions when challenges arise.🔎

- Protect quality and accuracy. Audit customs entries and released shipments to identify errors, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve.

- 🧠  Be a customs resource. Stay current on CBP regulations and Partner Government Agency requirements, research questions, and help translate regulations into practical guidance.

- 📞  Keep everyone connected. Communicate professionally with clients, carriers, vendors, Customs, and internal teams to gather information and resolve issues.

- 📋  Know the client inside and out. Develop and maintain client work instructions, databases, FTA correlations, annual certificates, and other critical account information.

- 🚚  Step in when it matters. Support accurate customs entry processing across transportation modes when needed to keep shipments moving.

- 🌱  Share what you know. Assist, coach, and mentor teammates with transactional processing, client requirements, and customs-related questions.

- 💡  Solve problems before they grow. Recognize risks, use sound judgment, and make timely decisions that help protect both our clients and GHY.

Who You Are:

You know customs, but you also understand that  great brokerage service is about more than getting an entry released.

You’re someone who asks questions, catches details others might miss, and takes ownership when something needs to be resolved. You’re equally comfortable digging into regulations, talking with a client, or helping a teammate work through a challenging entry.

You bring:

- Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs rules and regulations

- Advanced understanding of customs entry and commercial invoice requirements

- Working knowledge of Partner Government Agency requirements and entry data elements

- Knowledge of tariff classification, the General Rules of Interpretation (GRIs), General Notes, and Explanatory Notes

- Exceptional client service and relationship-building skills

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

- Sound judgment when making time-sensitive decisions

- Experience navigating different client requirements, nuances, and SOPs

- The ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment

- Clear, positive, and professional written and verbal communication

- Experience with customs brokerage software

- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

- The ability to work independently while remaining a collaborative member of the team

What You’ll Bring:

- 3+ years of customs brokerage or related industry experience

- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation

- U.S. Customs Broker License ( REQUIRED for Remote Work)

- Demonstrated experience applying customs knowledge to client needs and transactional processing
